Course Description: This is an advanced Spanish class. Students will learn all eight Spanish verb tenses. They will learn linguistic constructions and the rules of deep structure. Students will read university level short stories and passages in Spanish. They will write one page papers in properly constructed Spanish. They will speak Spanish daily on a variety of topics. Audio, lingual, reading and writing in Spanish will be required.

INC: Student has not completed all the given requirements at this time. Assignments missed while absent will be recorded with the symbol “Ab” and not count toward their grade. Students have a minimum of 2 days for each day absent to submit missed work for credit. Should a student become ineligible they are guaranteed the opportunity in each class to raise their grade to become eligible in the following week.

Requirements: Tests. Quizzes, homework, worksheets, paragraphs, class participation, oral presentations, listening exercises.
Behavior Plan: 1. Student will be warned about behavior infractions. Perry-Lecompton High School
2. Student will serve a ten minute detention with the teacher. 3. Student will serve a twenty minute detention with the teacher. 4. Student will serve a thirty minute office detention.
Course Outline: Fall Semester Students will be able to converse on a variety of topics. They will read stories and articles in Spanish. They will master all basic constructions of Spanish. Spring Semester Continued from fall semester.
State Standards: Standard 1.1 Communication – Interpersonal / Conversational. The student engages in conversations, provides and obtains information, expresses feelings and emotions, and exchanges opinions. Benchmark 1.1. Converses on global and literary topics using cohesive and connected units of thought in present, past and future time. Standard 1.2 Communication – Interpretive. The student understands and interprets written and spoken/signed language on a variety of topics. Benchmark 1.2. Understands and interprets authentic written and spoken/signed sources of universal, literary, and global topics. Standard 1.3 Presentational Communication. The student conveys information, concepts, and ideas to listeners, viewers, and readers for a variety of purposes. Benchmark 1.3. Conveys literary, global, and universal themes in all timeframes in cohesive paragraphs. Standard 2.1 Cultural practices and perspectives. The student demonstrates an understanding of the relationship between the practices and perspectives of the culture studied. Benchmark 2.1. Understands relationships between practices and perspectives in institutions, historical/political context of target language cultures. Standard 2.2 Cultural products and perspectives. The student demonstrates an understanding of the relationship between the products and perspectives of the culture studied. Benchmark 2.2. Describes role and significance of a broad range of products and their influence on the world. Standard 3. Connections - Content. The student makes connections to other disciplines and to authentic sources through knowledge of a world language. Benchmark 3.1.1-9. The student reinforces and furthers reading, writing, math, social studies, and science skills, as well as reinforcing and furthering appreciation of music, visual arts, health, and technology through world language. Standard 3.2 Connections – Authentic sources. The student makes connections to other disciplines and to authentic sources through knowledge of a world language. Benchmark 3.2. Analyzes the perspective evident in sources intended for native speakers. Standard 4.1 Comparisons - Languages. Benchmark 4.1. The student incorporates understanding of similarities and differences to communicate effectively. Standard 4.2 Comparisons – Cultures. The student understands the concept of cultures through comparing the target cultures and American culture. Benchmark 4.2. The student expresses similarities and differences in perspectives by identifying related products and practices. Standard 5.1 Communities - Application. The student applies language skills and cultural knowledge both within and beyond the school setting. Benchmark 5.1. The student shares skills or knowledge with school, community groups, and groups or individuals in target language countries. Standard 5.2 Communities – Exploration. The student becomes a life-long learner for personal enjoyment and enrichment. Benchmark 5.2. The student engages in extensive immersion-like interaction with target language and cultures.
