YUROK TRIBE-JOB DESCRIPTION Tribal Court Administrator - Operations
Job Title: Tribal Court Administrator - Job Grade 6/7 Operations Department Tribal Court Location Klamath Reports To: Chief Judge / Executive Director FLSA Status Exempt ALL HIRING IS SUBJECT TO THE YUROK TRIBE’S HIRING PREFERENCE Salary Range $34,907/$38,790
POSITION SUMMARY: The core responsibility of this position is the operation functions of the Yurok Tribe Tribal Court and responsibility for insuring that all administrative aspects are operating effectively and efficiently. The Tribal Court Administrator is responsible for the supervision of staff relating to operational functions, assisting preparing court budgets, insuring court security; overseeing court reports production, public information, and the administrative management of jurors and witnesses.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Responsible for the administrative supervision of Tribal Court Operations staff members consistent with Yurok Tribe personnel policies, procedures, and generally accepted practices. That supervision includes but is not limited to: annual performance evaluations, developing training programs as needed, insuring adequate staffing, distribution of work, etc.
2. Accountable for the administration of Court Operations budgets, including but not limited to, the development and submission of annual budgets, project development costing, forecasting of expenses, and related budgetary duties.
3. Develop and administer a juror and witness tracking system to insure the on-time and consistent scheduling of jurors and witnesses as required by the Court.
4. Responsible for insuring the physical security and confidentiality of Court records and Court facility through appropriate measures and actions.
5. Collaboratively interact with the Programs Tribal Court Administrator and various other official and community groups.
6. Accountable for collaboratively drafting, editing, formatting, and submitting reports to the Tribal Council, community committees, and funding agencies as required.
7. Collect statistical information needed to manage operations for presentation as required or requested.
8. Administer Tribal Bar Exam.
9. Provide security for all files, documents, and materials filed with or in the custody of the Tribal Court, and insuring that they are not removed from the offices except upon the specific instructions of a Judge of the Tribal Court.
10. Completes other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs the full range of supervisory duties and responsibilities for Court Clerks, Bailiffs and Court Reporter. Plans work of subordinates based on priorities, nature of assignment, and capability of employee. Develops work performance plans and evaluates performance of subordinates. Provides advice, instruction and guidance to subordinates on work matters. Reviews and makes recommendations on personnel actions such as employment, retention, promotion and termination.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A. Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration or related fields, and at least two (2) years of work experience in a court and a supervisory position or any relevant combination of experience and training which would indicate possession of the required knowledge, abilities, and skills listed in this job description. B. Prefer tribal court experience. C. Prefer some working knowledge of the functions of Court Clerks and Reporters. D. Demonstrated knowledge of the Indian community, its organization, and needs. E. Demonstrated knowledge of the goals of the Tribal Court and related services. F. Must accept confidentiality as a strict condition of employment. G. Able to pass background checks and be bonded H. Must be proficient in operating various computer-based programs (i.e., MS Word, Excel, etc.) I. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing at various levels of interaction ranging from individuals, community based organizations to government entities. J. ADDITIONAL JOB INFORMATION This position requires a valid driver's license and compliance with the Vehicle Use Policy. Employees may not drive Yurok Tribe-owned/leased vehicles, rental cars, or personal vehicles on behalf of the Tribe if considered "high risk drivers." Please see further details in the Vehicle Use Policy. Employment in this position will be contingent upon completion of a Vehicle Use Agreement, which may include a review of the prospective employee's motor vehicle record.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL EFFORT:
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Must have the ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. With ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Knowledge of Yurok language is preferred but not required.
REASONING ABILITY: Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral and/or diagram form. With ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, stand and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is generally required to sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
VISION REQUIREMENTS: Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less). Color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors).
