Would Your Child Like to Go to Camp This Summer?

CHILDREN’S CAMP WOULD YOUR CHILD LIKE TO GO TO CAMP THIS SUMMER?

The Illinois Department of Human Services has a contract with the American Camp Association, Illinois that can pay the camp fee. There are day camps and overnight camps with one or two week sessions for ages 7-13. Some areas of the state do not have camps close enough to make them available to all children.

YOU ASK “WHY SHOULD I SEND MY CHILD/CHILDREN TO CAMP”?

This can provide your child with something to look forward to for their summer break. There are numerous activities being provided at camp that your child can participate in. Some of the fun activities at camp include swimming, boating, arts & crafts, drama, individual and group sports, camping out, cooking out, hiking, and horseback riding. The children are able to have fun and at the same time learn valuable life skills like how to make a bed, sweep a floor, how to cook and even learn how to do laundry. There are also community service projects and leadership training for the older children.

HOW DO YOU FIND OUT IF THERE ARE CAMPS NEAR YOU?

Call Toll Free 1-866-543-2267 or 1-866-KID-CAMP beginning Saturday, April 15, 2017 through Friday, May 26, 2017. Calls will be taken: Monday from 9AM to 8PM, Tuesday through Saturday from 9AM to 4PM, and the office is closed on Sunday. The office will also be closed in observance of Memorial Day on May 27th, 28th, and 29th.

THEN WHAT WILL I HAVE TO DO?

1. You will need to supply information to the camp that you select either in person or by mail when requested. The camp will inform you of what information that they need you to provide after the camp receives your child’s registration.

2. You will need to make arrangements to get the child to the location of where the campers are to be picked up to be taken to the camp. You will also need to pick the child up after the camp session has ended. This location may be the actual campsite, at a pick-up point in your town, or in a town close to your home.

This is a great opportunity for your child. Please call as close to April 15th as possible because the numbers of camp openings are limited. If the line is busy, continue trying to call it again as many other people may also be calling.

¿COMO AVERIGUAR SI HAY CAMPAMENTOS CERCA DE USTED?

Llamadas se tomarán: el lunes de 9:00 de la mañana a 8:00 de la noche, el martes al sábado de 9:00 de la mañana a 4:00 de la tarde, y la oficina está cerrada el domingo. La oficina también se cerrará en observancia del día de los caídos el 27, 28 y el 29 de mayo.

¿Y LUEGO QUÉ DEBO HACER?

1. Deberá proveer información en persona o por correo al campamento que usted ha elegido. El campamento le pedirá la información necesaria después de recibir la inscripción de sus hijos.

2. Deberá llevar a sus hijos al sitio donde recogen a las personas que van al campamento. También debe recoger a los niños allí mismo después de regresar de la sesión de campamento. Este lugar puede ser el mismo sitio del campamento, un lugar designado en su pueblo o un pueblo cercano a su hogar.
