2 WG 2 Technical Business 2.1 Harmonization 2.1.1 Canada - Discussion of harmonization [WAS 0004 – 32N0214] A group will form this week to address the area of principles (Jake, Olle, David, Frank, Dan, Bruce, Baba) 2.1.2 Canada - 14662 and 11179 [WAS 0002] A group was formed for electronic commerce (Thursday 1330 meeting) 2.1.3 UK - 11179 and 9075 [WAS 0003] This was well received. 2.2 Memorandum of Understanding –Management Group (MOU-MG) Report Jake reported 2.3 IRDS E/I facility report David reported. The reported on the IRDS progress. ISO/IEC 13238-3:1998 Information technology – Data Management - Part 3 IRDS export/import facility is now a standard. 4 JTC 1/SC 32 Matters 4.1 Review of JTC 1 decisions affecting WG 2 Douglas Mann reported 4.2 Review of SC 32 decisions affecting WG 2 Douglas Mann reported. The list of WG 2 projects was presented [WAS 0012, WAS 0013]. There was a request for updates to be presented to the SC 32 secretary. The UK commented on the projects as cross-sectorial, information technology and requested discussion on some directions for the cross-sectorial such as human sexes. There were multiple viewpoints on the directions that could be taken. A resolution for harmonization directions with other organizations will be prepared by the drafting committee. 4.3 SC 32 Response to JTC 1 N 5437

1. Reviews of projects, priorities and target dates (WAS012 and WAS013) 1.1. Review of Project Editor and liaison assignments - These were reviewed and the secretary will revise and post [WAS0013] 1.2. Discuss consolidation of Study Period initiatives 1.3. Work items on which no progress is being made (none identified) 1.4. Review of WG 2 Business Plan (request members to review SC 32 plan when developed)

2. Items for future work 2.1. Letter from WG 2 soliciting support for CSMF project split (WAS018) 2.2. Bill to draft NWI addressing BT-EC C.1 and C.8 (SC32 Repository Strategy (Jake) – Bill Olle will prepare a written set of ideas to address C.1 and C.8, Jake will do the same for C.2 2.3 Repository Strategy – a discussion was held. The market views seem to cover a spectrum of needs from simple to complex. The vendor community involvement may be required to progress the work. The view of repository, dictionary, registry is somewhat immaterial. The important this is that are they using metadata for some possible use that may require services beyond data services. The expectations of different communities may need different levels of services and protocols and content.
