Assistant Head Post 16 General:

Rosewood school is a special school for learners with Profound & Multiple Learning Difficulties. Great Oaks School is a secondary school for young people with moderate or severe learning difficulties. Solent Special Educational Trust is being formed from the 1st September 2017 bringing together Rosewood Free School and Great Oaks School into a Multi Academy Trust.

Responsible to: Headteacher of Rosewood School

Purpose:

To provide leadership, professional knowledge and expertise in order to develop Post 16 Teaching and Learning; by working in partnership with the Leadership Team ensure the Post 16 departments in both schools are managed efficiently, effectively and meets the high standards, aims and ethos of the Trust. The postholder will also be responsible for the development of Post 19 provision for learners with the most complex needs.

Key Accountabilities

To fulfil professional duties as specified in Terms and Conditions of Service for Teachers.

Main Tasks in Partnership as part of the Leadership Team:

Strategic Development and Direction of the Schools in the MAT

To provide a clear and sound vision, ethos and direction that promotes and supports Post 16 learning and their spiritual, moral, cultural and social development. To produce a department development plan that identifies appropriate

priorities and targets for improvement plans across all the provisions. To ensure the development, monitoring, evaluation and implementation of Post 16 policies that support the school’s values, aims and objectives. To ensure a curriculum which meets the diverse needs of the students taking into account any statutory requirements. To work with Post 19 and Post 25 providers to ensure smooth transition after the end of school placements. To provide cover for the Head or Deputy as required in the running of Rosewood or Great Oaks Schools. To be part of the Senior Management team in the Trust.

Teaching To teach in the Post 16 departments across both schools (approximately 0.4 teaching commitment)

Leading and Managing Staff

To communicate the values, aim and objectives for Post 16 to all department staff. To implement sound management practices throughout the department so all department staff are clear of their roles and responsibilities. To work with Governors and senior colleagues to recruit and select teaching and non-teaching staff. To manage and develop relationships with Post 16 pupils, staff, parents, governors and community.

Deployment of Staff and Resources

To ensure effective and efficient use of staff, accommodation and learning resources within the allocated department budget. To monitor and evaluate the use of resources to raise pupil achievements. To ensure the safety of pupils, staff and others on the school site and for off site visits. To assist in the development of department staff Hold regular meetings with department team Oversee performance management reviews Plan for staff meetings and in-service days for both department and when required whole school. Manage Provision across a number of different sites. Managing Information

To establish procedures and systems enabling the efficient storage, retrieval and return of information utilising it where appropriate. To lead meetings and professional days, to disseminate information, solve problems and make decisions. To contribute to other meetings in school and outside to ensure appropriate views are represented.

Post 16 Teaching and Learning

To lead, monitor and co-ordinate the curriculum development and extracurricular activities of all post 16 learners. To coordinate department timetables. To assist the Head/Deputy with the monitoring of the quality of teaching. To collect, analyse data and report to governors, parents, staff and LA and other agencies. To use data to measure pupil outcomes and help set targets for whole department improvement. To coordinate curriculum enrichment opportunities across the department.
