Computer Love

This week was National Computer Science Week! All scholars at Summit had the opportunity to participate in “An Hour of Code,” in which they received on-line tutorials and had the chance to practice learning the basics of computer programming.

A BIG shout out to all who participated in our recent Learning Party, entitled, “Fun with Math.” Our gym was packed full of Summit scholars and their families. Scholars played games with their families that revolved around addition, counting multiples and exchanging money for different denominations. It was a fun time had by all! Be on the lookout for our next Learning Party, “Fun with Vocabulary.”

Thank you to all families who have donated cans and coats to help serve those in need in our community! We sincerely appreciate your selflessness as we all work together to teach the scholars the importance of “paying it forward.”

Teacher Spotlight on….Ms. Carroll

Academic Excellence, climbing to the top…Motivated, educated and we’ll never stop! Ms. Carroll is a proud graduate of Indiana University, Bloomington Class of 2013! Kandiss is currently working towards her Master of Arts in Teaching from Marian University. While earning her undergraduate

degree at IU, she was involved in many organizations. Kandiss is most proud of her impact on the lives of the

youth of Bloomington, IN through the Girl Scouts program. Her experience as a Girl Scouts troop leader has set the platform for what she is determined to do for her scholars at TSA. Prior to college, Kandiss grew up here in Indianapolis where she attended Warren Township schools for k-12 and graduated from Warren Central with the class of 2010. Kandiss taught 6th grade scholars at Tindley Collegiate last year and now teaches 2nd grade scholars at Summit. Kandiss is truly excited to teach in the community that she has known her whole life.

Pictures from our Learning Party, “Fun with Math!” Can you believe Semester 1 is coming to an end? We look forward to an exciting 2nd semester full of non-stop learning, scholar growth and academic excellence!!!
