JOB DESCRIPTION

Post title: Learning Support Assistant - SEN Grade: East Sussex Grade 4 Responsible to: The Headteacher and the Governing body

Main Purpose of the job:

To work under the instruction and guidance of Inclusion Leader and the leadership team to support pupils’ learning.

Principle Accountabilities

Support for the Pupils . Supervise and provide particular support for pupils, including those in vulnerable groups and those with special educational needs, ensuring their safety and access to learning activities . Assist with the implementation of Individual Educational Plans and Personal Learning Plans . Establish constructive relationships with pupils and interact with them according to individual needs . Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils . Encourage pupils to interact with others and engage in planned activities . Promote self-esteem and independence . Set challenging and demanding expectations and promote self-esteem and independence . Provide feedback to pupils in relation to progress and achievement under guidance of the Inclusion Leader

Support for the Teacher . Under guidance, use strategies to support pupils to achieve learning goals . Monitor pupils’ responses to learning activities and accurately record achievement/progress against pre- determined learning objectives . Liaise with parents/carers/other agencies as required . Provide feedback to the Inclusion Leader on pupils’ achievement, progress and difficulties . Promote good behaviour, dealing promptly with conflict and incidents in line with school policies and encourage pupils to take responsibility for their own behaviour . Under the guidance of the Inclusion Leader, mark pupils’ work if required . Provide admin support eg. Photocopying, filing etc.

Support for the Curriculum . Implement agreed learning activities/teaching programmes and local and national learning strategies . Support the use of ICT in learning activities and develop pupils’ competence and independence in its use . Prepare, maintain and use equipment and resources required for learning activities and assist pupils in their use.

Support for the School . Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health and safety, security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person . Be aware of and support difference and ensure pupils have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop . Support the Christian ethos, work and /aims of the school . Appreciate and support the role of other professionals . Attend and participate in relevant meetings as required . Participate in training and other learning activities and performance development as required The list of duties in this job description should not be regarded as exclusive or exhaustive. Essential Desirable

Qualifications and NVQ3 or other relevant qualification First Aid (training will be experience GCSE Grade C in English and maths or arranged if necessary) NVQ level 3 or equivalent Thrive training Experience of supporting pupils’ learning, including those with special educational needs.

Skills Good interpersonal skills Good communication skills, verbal and written Good organisational skills Use of ICT

Knowledge Knowledge and understanding of child protection and health and safety practices and procedures Knowledge and awareness of factors related to how children learn SEN Code of Practice

Abilities To work as part of a team Be able to support pupils in ICT Ability to establish and develop effective relationships with pupils and adults To take responsibility for the delivery of an intervention programme Maintain confidentiality
