Special School Nursing  Enteral Feeding and care of gastrostomies.  Chronic disease/ Long Term Condition associated with the management and administration of medicines.  Continence management pathway.  Training of school staff to enable them to undertake some of the care procedures due during the school day. Associated with chronic disease/ disability management.  Safe guarding and participation in the Looked after Children’s Assessments.

Haemoglobinopathy Support Nurse  The support service aims to provide support and advice to families who have a child with a haemoglobin disorder such as Sickle Cell Disease or Thalassemia and will liaise with other health professionals

In Special schools:

The service will provide specialised nursing care to children within the 2 special schools.

The service will train the teaching support assistant within the schools to undertake the individual care procedures required enabling the child to access the curriculum.

We undertake the immunisations within the specials schools in line with the National Immunisation Programme to include Meningitis C, Diphtheria, Tetanus & Polio and HPV, with the exception of the BCG vaccinations.

The service works in partnership with families, school staff and other professionals and will undertaking any nursing procedures that can be safely carried out within the school setting.
