Dear Mike, Age with Confidence – role of the CVSs

At the CVS Chief Officers’ meeting on Friday, we discussed the role of the CVSs in relation to the WSCC Age with Confidence agenda.

The CVSs are unanimous in their wish to ensure that the voluntary and community sector in West Sussex engage with this very important issue. We want VCOs to be informed and able to contribute to debates concerning the needs of an ageing population. We also want to ensure that they are aware of and ready to bid for any commissioned work.

However, reduction in the resources of all the CVSs mean that we have to be realistic about what we can offer. As part of our normal day-to-day work we can: • Disseminate information to all our member groups and to our wider community contacts (we ask that this is sent to us in an easily digestible format and ready to be forwarded) • Feed back to WSCC information we receive from our groups, together with any concerns expressed by our groups • As part of our routine development work, continue to assist groups working with older people and support their skills development. • Broker relationships between groups and commissioners

Without additional funding we are not in a position to organise discussion forums, meetings or training specific to the Age with Confidence agenda, although we are always happy to publicise and promote any such events.

Best wishes,

Christine Hardisty
