By signing below you will authorize NASW-DE to post, on the Chapter’s web site and in various publications, biographical information that you included in your application for a scholarship. Your name as a scholarship recipient is a matter of public record.

About the NASW-DE Chapter Scholarship

Two $500.00 scholarships will be awarded in January 2017 to a Senior BSW or MSW student. The student must be an NASW Delaware Chapter member and be enrolled in a CSWE accredited BSW or MSW program. Payment of the award will be contingent on current enrollment of the candidate in the program, and a check will be written by NASW directly to the award recipient’s College/ University. If awarded the scholarship, the recipient will be required to provide his or her social security number to NASW. Scholarship applications and essays must be postmarked no later than November 30, 2017. The scholarship recipient will be included in the Chapter’s publicity materials and on the website and must be available for an interview. The winning essay may also be published on the Chapter’s website.

Scholarship Guidelines

1. The applicant must be a current NASW Delaware Chapter member in good standing. The applicant must also be a Senior BSW student, Generalist MSW student, or Specialist (Advanced) MSW student. Please enclose a copy of your current NASW membership card. The award recipient must remain a member in good standing throughout the award period. Membership eligibility inquiries may be directed to NASW Membership Services at 800-742-4089. 2. Scholarship Application form (including Release of Information) and application materials must be postmarked by November 30, 2017. Applications postmarked after November 30, 2017 will not be considered. 3. Essay: (two typed, double-spaced pages). Essay must address the following: 1) why you selected social work as a major/profession, 2) your field of practice interest (e.g., child welfare, mental health, health and public health, school, community organizing or administration, management supervision), and 3) your past and current volunteer experience. 4. Two letters of support from professional references; one must be from an instructor from your social work program (can be a field instructor and faculty field liaison). Letters must be included with the application and can be written by the candidate's professors; individuals or leaders of groups with whom the candidate has worked in a helping capacity; an employer/supervisor; or other person with knowledge of the applicant's experience in the field of social work/social service. 5. Required cumulative grade point average: 3.0 for BSW student; 3.5 for MSW student. 6. A current unofficial copy of your transcript (including Spring 2017) that includes the courses in which you are currently enrolled.
