3. Admission Quota (Recommendation from SNU to NIIED) Up to 20 persons (limit 3 per country) ※ 2013 KGSP Allocation Quota for Domestic Universities: 400 persons

4. Applicant Eligibility ■ Applicant and both of his/her parents must all hold foreign citizenships. * Applicants who hold dual citizenship (including Korean citizenship) are not qualified to apply for this program. ■ Applicants should be in good health, both mentally and physically to study in Korea for an extended period of time. ※ Applicants must submit the Personal Medical Assessment (included in the application form) when he/she apply for this program, and when it’s orientation, an Official Medical Examination will be done by NIIED. A serious illness (For example, HIV, Drug, etc) will be the main cause of disqualification from the scholarship. ※ The handicapped who satisfy the above are also eligible for the program ※ NOT eligible: those who are pregnant ■ Applicants must be under 40 years of age as of Sep. 1st, 2013 (born post Sep. 1st, 1973).

■ Applicants must hold or be an expected recipient of a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree as of August 31st, 2013. (Applicant eligibility will be rescinded if applicant fails to obtain the appropriate degree by August 31st, 2013). ※ Applicants who have ever enrolled in a university in Korea will be disqualified from applying to the KGSP program. Specifically, an applicant who has previously enrolled in an undergraduate program, a master’s program, a doctoral program or an exchange program in Korea cannot apply for this program. ※Applicants who apply for the Master’s program must hold a Bachelor’s degree or a diploma that is equivalent to or higher than a Bachelor’s degree. ※ Applicants who apply for the Doctoral program must hold a Master’s degree or a diploma that is equivalent to or higher than a Master’s degree. ※ Applicants who are expecting to obtain the relevant required degree or diploma by August 31st, 2013 must submit a certificate of degree or diploma expectation, and submit the official certificate of degree or diploma to NIIED by August 31st, 2013.

■ Applicants must possess a grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.64/4.0 or 80% when converted into a percentage format (inclusive of all grades) from the previously attended institution. * Refer to GPA conversion table * If the transcript is not indicated in grades/marks/scores format, or is difficult to convert into percentages, attachment of official explanation from the applicable institution is required. * If an applicant does not satisfy the above GPA criteria, he/she will be disqualified from applying to this program.

■ Applicants who possess Korean(TOPIK) or English(TOEFL, TOEIC, IELTS) proficiency score may be given priority selection status or be awarded additional points during the first round of selection (submit score report if applicable). ■ Those who gave up previous KGSP scholarship after admission is limited for selection. ■ Applicants applying for the programs of natural science and/or engineering may be given priority selection status should there be equal evaluation scores awarded to multiple applicants.

6. Selection Criteria

(1) Evaluation will be based on the submitted documents including the self introduction essay, study plan, recommendation letters, transcript and any other additional supplementary materials. Based on the documents submitted, applicant’s academic ability, language ability, aspirations for study abroad, potential societal contribution, and anticipated contribution towards the relationship between the two countries will be evaluated for the purposes of selection.

19 (2) Applicants selected from the document review process will be notified to attend an in-person or a phone interview.

7. Instructions for application submission

(1) Download and complete the Application Forms from the SNU, Office of Admissions website (http://www.useoul.edu) – Notice - Admissions: KGSP Application Guide for Graduate Students (2013 University Recommendation) (2) Refer to Seoul National University homepage (http://www.useoul.edu) and complete the Desired Program of Study form. Once completed, submit the form along with rest of the required application documents. Please note, changes and/or cancellations will not be permitted after the completion of documentation submission. (3) Send your complete application packet via registered mail or personal drop-off to the following address by March . 7 th , 2013 (5PM):

※ Refer to for the exact title of the programs offered for admission. ※ Should there be any missing document(s) and/or incorrect or false information on the application, the applicant may be disqualified from the admission. ※ If any additional verification is necessary, applicants may receive contact requesting submission of additional documents for the same.

 All documents should be in English or Korean. Documents in any other language should be accompanied by a notarized English or Korean translation issued by the country in which the document was originally produced.

 Original documents should be submitted. Should they be unavailable, however, copies must be certified by the originating institution before they are submitted.

8. Duration of Korean Government Scholarship Program

■ Master’s (Sep. 1, 2013 ~ Aug. 31, 2016) : 1yr. of Korean language study + 2yrs of Master’s ■ Doctoral (Sep. 1, 2013 ~ Aug. 31, 2017) : 1yr. of Korean language study + 3yrs of Doctoral * 2013 KGSP Graduate Students, extension of the scholarship award period will not be permitted after the completion of their respective degree course (2yrs for MA, 3yrs for Ph.D.)

19 * If you are granted exemption from the required 1 year of Korean Language Study (by submitting a TOPIK score of level 5 and or above), your scholarship period will be reduced by the equivalent length of time. 9. Korean Language Course

■ 1 year of Korean Language Study is required for all recipients of Korean Government Scholarship at the designated language institution. ■ If the student fails to obtain TOPIK score of level 3 and or above at the end of the given year, they will be required to enroll in additional 6 months of Korean language study. ■ If the student fails to obtain TOPIK score of level 3 and or above even after the additional 6 months of Korean language study, his/her scholarship recipient status and the offered admission by SNU will be rescinded. ※ Students who enroll in additional six months of Korean language study will not be permitted extend their scholarship payment period beyond the designated dates. ■ Language Institution: Student will be assigned to one of the seven Institutions designated by NIIED ■ Exemption from the Korean language course requirement: Korean proficiency at TOPIK Level 5 or 6 (with certification). * Scholars who have surpassed TOPIK Level 5 and want to start their degree course without the Korean language course should obtain permission from NIIED in advance. * Scholars who have surpassed TOPIK Level 6 must start their degree course without the Korean language course should obtain permission from NIIED in advance. * Scholars who are exempted from taking the Korean language course may take their degree course starting from September 1st, 2013.

10. Scholarship Payment Details

■ Scholarship Payment Period: Equivalent to the period of invitation. ■ Payment Details: ▷ Airfare: Round-trip economy class ticket. ▷ Monthly Allowance: 900,000 won (KRW) per month. ▷ Research Allowance: 210,000 won per semester for the fields of humanities and social sciences; 240,000 won per semester for the fields of natural and mechanic sciences. ▷ Relocation (Settlement) Allowance: 200,000 won upon arrival ▷ Return preparation allowance: 100,000 won (prior to departure) ▷ Language Training Fee: 600,000 won per quarter ▷ Tuition fees: All admission fees are waived by the host institution. The tuition is paid by NIIED. ▷ Dissertation Printing Costs: 500,000 ~ 800,000 won, depending on the actual costs.

19 ▷ Medical Insurance: 20,000 won per month (limited coverage). ▷ Special funding for scholars who are proficient in Korean language (TOPIK Level 5 or 6): 100,000 won per month (commencing from the degree program) ※ Please refer to the NIIED guideline for further information regarding scholarship payment details

11. Important Notes for All Applicants

■ Refer to Seoul National University, office of Admissions homepage (http://admission.ac.kr) and complete the Desired Program of Study form . Once completed, submit the form along with rest of the required application documents. Please note, changes and/or cancellations will not be permitted after the completion of documentation submission. ■ Applicants who have ever enrolled in a university in Korea will be disqualified from applying to the KGSP program. Specifically, an applicant who has previously enrolled in an undergraduate program, a master’s program, a doctoral program or an exchange program in Korea cannot apply for this program. ■ Dual applications are not accepted. Applicants must apply for this program via one Organization (Korean Embassy, Domestic University and Korean adoption association). If the applicant receives recommendation from more than one University or Organization, he/she will be disqualified. ■ Documents should be presented in their original format. Documents not in English or Korean must be accompanied by a certified English or Korean translation authenticated by the issuing institution. ■ Submitted documents will not be returned to the applicants. ■ Incomplete or incorrect information presented in the application documents may lead to rejection of the application by Selection Committee and scholarship will be rescinded even after entry into Korea. ■ Applicants must complete the health checklist accurately and truthfully. All successful candidates must take a comprehensive medical exam when its’ orientation. In accordance with the requirements of the Korea Immigration Service and the KGSP Program, the candidates who are judged to be physically unfit for this program will not be accepted. ■ Applicants may submit copies of published papers, if available. ■ Applicants may submit copies of awards, if available. ■ Attempting to change schools and or the desired program of study after submission will not be permitted under any circumstances. ■ Details of individual admission decisions for applicants cannot be disclosed. ■ Additional documents may be required from the applicant, based on the policy of the specific college or department. ■ Original documents should be submitted. Should they be unavailable, certified copies (authorized by the originating institution) must be submitted.
