Responsibilities of American Medical Women S Association (AMWA) Executive Director

Responsibilities of American Medical Women’s Association (AMWA) Executive Director

Background (“Who We Are”)

For nearly a century, the American Medical Women's Association (AMWA) has been committed to the advancement of women in medicine. Although the number of women choosing careers in medicine has grown substantially, there has not been a commensurate increase in the percentage of women in senior leadership positions. Recent research confirms that women physicians are paid significantly less than men at all levels. To redress this situation, AMWA has carried out ambitious advocacy efforts including research, constituency building, mentoring, leadership development, and policy reform to enable environmental and institutional transformation for nearly 100 years. AMWA has also generally advocated adherence to Feminist Principles throughout its history.

The basic principle of feminism is that it is a movement created to work towards social, political, monetary and artistic equality between men and women.
