POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the CFO, the Director of Finance and Accounting will be responsible for the daily oversight of the accounting, bookkeeping and controllership functions of Camillus House, a $22M not-for-profit organization. The Director of Finance and Accounting ensures that the organization’s accounting procedures conform to non-profit US-GAAP, is responsible for the production of periodic financial reports, keeps internal controls designed to mitigate risk, and manages the consolidations of financial information from several subsidiaries.

GENERAL PURPOSE: Lead the organization’s accounting, bookkeeping and controllership functions, under the supervision of the CFO.

1. Unquestionable ethical standards, professionalism and work ethic. As the number-two finance executive of the organization, the Director of Finance and Accounting will, in conjunction with the CFO, set the “tone at the top” in the Finance Department. The Director of Finance and Accounting will also be able to deliver results under adverse circumstances, including shifting and conflicting deadlines. 2. Ability to handle financial complexity. Camillus House is not a very large organization, but it has numerous moving parts, including government grants, privately-funded activities and various legal entities. Each piece requires separate budgeting, bookkeeping, cost allocations and financial reporting. 3. Non-profit requirements, including government grants. Prior experience in the non-profit sector is not a requirement, but the successful candidate will have to quickly become comfortable with the idiosyncrasies of non- profit GAAP, more complex audits, and compliance and internal controls requirements that are more stringent than in a for-profit company of similar size. A key component of this job is the financial management of grants. This includes managing multiple P&Ls across numerous government sources (federal, state and local) and private donors, and maintaining a very detailed system of expense allocations. 4. Strong Business Processes mindset. Ability to quickly design, implement and communicate new standard operating procedures in order to tackle new programs or activities as the organization grows. 5. Soft skills, communication, leadership. As a senior member of the Finance team, the Director of Finance and Accounting will interact effectively with diverse internal and external constituencies of varying degrees of seniority and financial acumen. Previous experience successfully supervising other accounting staff is a must.

ROLE QUALIFICATIONS:

Ÿ Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, Economics or related field. Ÿ CPA designation (in any state) strongly preferred OR, in lieu of CPA, minimum of fifteen (15) years of progressively responsible accounting experience. Ÿ Key “must have” requirement: Experience with allocation of expenses across multiple categories, for example: different legal entities, departments, product lines, divisions, programs, funding sources, etc. Must be comfortable with producing and analyzing P&Ls in matrix form, with rows containing the GL accounts, and columns containing various segments.

1 Ÿ Key “must have” requirement: Extremely methodical, details-oriented and organized. This person must be able to keep a meticulously organized set of files (physical and electronic), supporting ledgers, and other documents. Ÿ Previous experience supervising other accounting staff a must. Ÿ Very strong MS Excel skills. Must be comfortable manipulating vast amounts of data using Excel’s functionality, and easily summarizing information into clean, intelligible reports. Ÿ Adequate skills in MS Word and MS Outlook. Ÿ Comfortable with technology, experience with implementing accounting software packages and modules. Ÿ Strong Business Processeses mindset. Ÿ Experience with enterprise-level accounting/ERP software (more advanced than QuickBooks) such as MS Great Plains, Oracle Financials, SAP, JD Edwards, etc.

Valued (but not required) skills and experience:

Ÿ Strongly preferred: Experience in non-profit organizations and/or government entities, including grants management, government financing, non-profit accounting, OMB A-133 audits, and compliance with government funding requirements. Ÿ Experience with consolidation of multiple legal entities and inter-company eliminations. Ÿ Experience with Sage/Abila MIP Fund Accounting software a very strong plus. Ÿ Master degree in Accounting a strong plus.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

 Maintain the accounting books of the organization and all its affiliates.  Perform financial monitoring of grants, and interface with filed managers in communicating actual results by program and grant. Coordinate required corrective actions as needed.  Develop budgets for new programs; provide ad-hoc financial analysis as required.  Lead the monthly accounting close process, including consolidations and inter-company eliminations.  Maintain the Chart of Accounts and expand it in a rational and organized fashion, as the organization’s needs evolve.  Supervise grants invoicing, A/P and A/R functions.  Closely coordinate interaction with HR and Payroll.  Assist the CFO in formulating annual budgets, cash flow projections and other forecasts.  Lead the annual audit process and tax filings.  Other controllership duties and special projects, as assigned by the CFO.

Must be able to assist in the production of financial information, and also be able to analyze it and communicate meaningful insights to CFO and other managers.

Reporting to this position: Two Accounts Payable Specialists, as well as “dotted-line” supervision of two Grants Billing Coordinators.
