Master of Arts in English Indiana University East Program Application Guidelines 2015-16

We are pleased with your interest in our Master of Arts in English degree program. As you begin the application for admission process, we wish to ensure that you are familiar with the minimum requirements for admission to graduate study in English. It is important to recognize that although satisfaction of these basic requirements does not guarantee graduate admission, failure to satisfy these requirements may lead to automatic denial of admission. Below the process for applying to the program are detailed.

Two Applications to Complete

1) Program Application: Complete the application below, pasting in your statement of purpose, CV, and writing sample after the application. Include all items as a single word document. Submit the application as an email attachment to the Office of Graduate Programs in English at [email protected].

2) Indiana University Application: Complete the online application for the Graduate Certificate Program within Indiana University. There is a small application fee. The application can be found at the following:

Transcripts Official transcripts in hard copy form are required to support the program application. You must submit an official transcript to show receipt of a baccalaureate degree. Also, submit your most recent graduate degree transcript if that applies. If a transcript is not in English, you must provide an official English translation certified by the college or university. An official transcript bears the original signature of the registrar and/or the original seal of the issuing institution. Send the transcript to the program yourself along with your other application materials. The transcripts can be sent in an envelope sealed by the registrar. Transcripts cannot be returned. Send official transcripts through regular mail to the Office of Graduate Programs in English, Edwina Helton, IU East, Whitewater Hall, 2325 Chester Blvd. Richmond, Indiana, 47374.

Admission Decisions Applications and all supporting documentation are collected with a December 1 or April 15 deadline. Decisions for admission are made for fall admission in January and May. Applicants will be not be considered until all the required materials have been received.

Graduate Certificate Basic Requirements  Undergraduate Cumulative Grade Point Average: 3.0 or equivalent required. 1 Additional International Applicant Requirements:  TOEFL for Non-Native English Speakers: Minimum Internet-Based Test (IBT) Overall Score Required: 70 With the following minimum section requirements: Reading: 17 Listening: 12 Speaking: 25 Writing: 17  IELTS (Academic Module): An alternative to the TOEFL, scores of 5.5 or higher will be accepted
