1 South Carolina General Assembly 2 120th Session, 2013-2014 3 4 S. 1185 5 6 STATUS INFORMATION 7 8 Senate Resolution 9 Sponsors: Senator Allen 10 Document Path: l:\council\bills\gm\24019ahb14.docx 11 12 Introduced in the Senate on April 1, 2014 13 Adopted by the Senate on April 1, 2014 14 15 Summary: Upstate Bike and Club Blessing 16 17 18 HISTORY OF LEGISLATIVE ACTIONS 19 20 Date Body Action Description with journal page number 21 4/1/2014 Senate Introduced and adopted ( Senate Journalpage 7) 22 23 24 VERSIONS OF THIS BILL 25 26 4/1/2014 27 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 A SENATE RESOLUTION 10 11 TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND THE 2014 ANNUAL 12 UPSTATE BIKE AND CLUB BLESSING AND ANNUAL 13 BLOOD DRIVE HONORING FALLEN BIKERS AND CLUB 14 MEMBERS OF THE UPSTATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA. 15 16 Whereas, the Annual Upstate Bike and Club Blessing seeks to 17 foster unity in the Upstate community thru diversity of culture, 18 inclusion, education, community involvement, and partnership 19 regardless of age, race, color, creed, or religion; and 20 21 Whereas, in April 2010, the Upstate Bike and Club Blessing began 22 as a means to maintain harmony and unity among the Upstate 23 motorcycle clubs, social clubs, and auto clubs by remembering 24 fallen bikers and club members; and 25 26 Whereas, the memorial service to remember fallen bikers and club 27 members that year was held at Valley Brook Outreach Church, and 28 some seventyfive people participated; and 29 30 Whereas, the following April, the club community embarked on a 31 project to provide toiletries for United States Armed Forces 32 stationed overseas, and followed the memorial service with a unity 33 ride and a free meal and entertainment in a familyoriented 34 environment for all participants and the general community; and 35 36 Whereas, in April of 2012, the Upstate Bike and Club Blessing 37 identified charities of the Upstate to be supported through the 38 clubs, and after the service to remember fallen bikers and club 39 members, clubs from across the Upstate took a unity ride, provided 40 several voter registrations booths, and provided and prepared food 41 to serve more than one thousand families; and 42
[1185] 2 1 Whereas, more than a hundred motorcycle clubs, social clubs, and 2 auto clubs participated in the April 2013 Annual Upstate Bike and 3 Club Blessing, including clubs from Virginia to Alabama. Besides 4 the memorial service, unity ride, and the provision of free food for 5 two thousand five hundred families in Greenville’s Gower Park, 6 Miss South Carolina 2013 Ali Rogers addressed the gathering on 7 the importance of helmet safety, and participants provided food 8 goods to help to sustain the South Greenville Food Bank; and 9 10 Whereas, for 2014, the Carolina Blood Bank is designating an 11 annual blood drive in honor of all fallen bikers, social club 12 members, and auto club members of the Upstate, and the 13 participants in the Annual Upstate Bike and Club Blessing will be 14 encouraged to give blood; and 15 16 Whereas, the services this year will be held on April 5, 2014, at the 17 Long Branch Baptist Church, and the keynote speaker will be 18 Pastor Sean Dogan, followed by state and county officials. The 19 Unity Ride will proceed to Lakeside Park where the clubs plan to 20 provide free food, entertainment, games, and fun for more than 21 three thousand five hundred families; and 22 23 Whereas, since the Annual Upstate Bike and Club Blessing began, 24 the Upstate of South Carolina has reported fewer motorcycle 25 related tragedies per capita than any other major metropolitan area 26 from North Carolina through Atlanta, Georgia; and 27 28 Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate appreciate the 29 work of the Annual Upstate Bike and Club Blessing in fostering 30 community involvement and unity among the bike clubs, social 31 clubs, and auto clubs. Now, therefore, 32 33 Be it resolved by the Senate: 34 35 That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, 36 recognize and commend the 2014 Annual Upstate Bike and Club 37 Blessing and Annual Blood Drive honoring fallen bikers and club 38 members of the Upstate of South Carolina. 39 XX 40
