1 BIL: 1297 2 TYP: Senate Resolution SR 3 INB: Senate 4 IND: 20020522 5 PSP: Reese 6 SPO: Reese 7 DDN: l:\council\bills\pt\1004dw02.doc 8 DPB: 20020522 9 SUB: Allison, The Honorable Merita Ann “Rita” 10 11 12 HST: 13 14 Body Date Action Description Com Leg Involved 15 ______16 Senate 20020522 Introduced, adopted 17 18 19 20 Versions of This Bill 21 22 23 24 25 TXT: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 A SENATE RESOLUTION 10 11 TO COMMEND THE HONORABLE MERITA ANN “RITA” 12 ALLISON FOR HER MANY YEARS OF DEDICATED 13 SERVICE TO THE PEOPLE OF HER DISTRICT AND TO THE 14 CITIZENS OF THIS STATE AS A MEMBER OF THE SOUTH 15 CAROLINA GENERAL ASSEMBLY AND TO WISH HER 16 GREAT SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS IN THE YEARS TO 17 COME. 18 19 Whereas, Rita Allison will be leaving her seat in the House of 20 Representatives at the end of the 2001-2002 session, having served 21 the people of this State with dignity, pride, and determination for 22 the past ten years; and 23 24 Whereas, Rita Allison is a graduate of the John Roberts School of 25 Fashion Merchandising who has spent many years teaching 26 self-development and modeling, and as a former Special Programs 27 Director for Springs Industry-Lyman, she has worked with people 28 of all ages in a variety of educational and recreational areas for 29 thirty years; and 30 31 Whereas, Rita Allison has served with distinction in the House of 32 Representatives since her election in 1993, and during this time 33 she has worked on both the House Ways and Means Committee 34 and the House Education and Public Works Committee; and 35 36 Whereas, during her time in the House of Representatives, Rita 37 Allison has risen to leadership positions in several areas; she 38 currently serves as the Assistant Majority Leader, having served as 39 the Majority Whip during the 1998-99 Session, and has chaired 40 both the General Assembly’s and GOP Women’s Caucus as well 41 as the Ways and Means subcommittee on K-12 education; and 42

1 [1297] 1 1 Whereas, Rita Allison has been honored for her outstanding work 2 with a variety of citizen interest groups within the Palmetto State 3 including being named “Legislator of the Year” by victim’s rights 4 advocates, the National Federation of the Blind, the South Carolina 5 School Board Association, and by advocates for adult education; 6 and 7 8 Whereas, her service in the South Carolina General Assembly has 9 been exemplary, yet Rita Allison has done even more for others 10 through her work with school and community service groups; she 11 is a lifetime member and former president of the South Carolina 12 Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), President of the South Carolina 13 United States Jaycee Auxiliaries, and for eight years served on the 14 Spartanburg County District Five Board of Trustees; and 15 16 Whereas, Representative Allison has served on the Board of 17 Directors for the Middle Tyger Community Center for the March 18 of Dimes and for the Miss South Carolina Pageant for thirty years; 19 she has also shared her time and talents as a Girl Scout leader for 20 ten years; and 21 22 Whereas, Rita Allison is married to William Ronald Allison, and 23 they are the loving and devoted parents of their daughter, Katina 24 Kelley; and 25 26 Whereas, Rita Allison is truly a Southern Lady whose charm, 27 grace, and glowing smile will be sorely missed by her colleagues 28 in the General Assembly, and it is with warmest regards and best 29 wishes that the Senate now says farewell to one of the House of 30 Representatives’ best and brightest members. Now, therefore, 31 32 Be it resolved by the Senate: 33 34 That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, 35 commend the Honorable Merita Ann “Rita” Allison for her many 36 years of dedicated service to the people of her district and to the 37 citizens of this State as a member of the South Carolina General 38 Assembly and wish her great success and happiness in the years to 39 come. 40 41 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to 42 the Honorable Rita Allison. 43 ----XX----
