Lawrence Public Schools Sample Email to Principals

Hello,

Below is a teacher candidate that I would love to place in your school for the 2016-17 school year. Candidate First Name is coming out of EPP Name.

Insert Teacher Candidate, Pertinent Dates, Area of Licensure, Potential Supervising Practitioners

Supervising Practitioners: Next to the candidate’s name, I have also provided her intended area of certification, a suggested supervising practitioner, as well as the dates that the teacher candidate would be in your school. Remember, state guidelines require that a supervising practitioner have  three years of experience,  proficient or exemplary ratings on their evaluation, and  certification/job responsibilities matching the teacher candidate.

As compensation for participating and taking part in the training on the new CAP, supervising teachers will receive insert any pertinent information here.

Timeline: As part of EPP’s program, teacher candidates start the school year with you and come to your school prior to its start to help their supervising practitioner get ready for the school year. It is also EPP’s hope that they will be able to be there for the first day of school to see what happens for a first day of school.

 During the fall, each teacher candidate will be in the classroom for the equivalent of a full day each week. Fall schedules are arranged individually by the student with their supervising practitioner since each one has different class timetable on campus completing their liberal arts majors.  During the spring, the teacher candidates will be in the school full time, conforming to their respective supervising teachers’ daily schedule and to your school calendar. NOTE: some students will not be ready for their practicum until Fall 2017. This is noted if that’s the case.

Next Steps: If you agree that you can place them, please let me know as soon as possible. Please also confirm the names of the supervising practitioners and whether these dates. Once that happens, I will connect you with the head of the program at EPP, so she can provide further information directly to supervising practitioners, regarding requirements about the new CAP requirements (Candidate Assessment of Performance) which has replaced the PPA (Pre-Service Performance Assessment). The CAP is designed similarly to the educator evaluation system that we have been using faithfully for the last few years, so educators should feel comfortable with the standards new teacher candidates’ are being assessed on, the schedule of announced and unannounced observations, and the cycle of self-assessment, goal setting, and feedback that the CAP prepares teacher candidates for.

I will ask Head of EPP program to cc you, of course, on all communication to teachers. I will also inform EPP about the CORI requirements for the district.

I am looking forward to this partnership with EPP and LPS schools. The participation of excellent teachers like yours in the training of future teachers is a valuable component of all ed prep programs a great step in the development of pipelines for LPS.
