Q2S ISSUES 40 MINUTES BARBARA JAMES DISCUSSION Student advisement issues The question of what category a student will be placed in depending on which quarter they enroll is still undetermined. It is possible that a student beginning in Winter quarter will be considered a quarter student, while one entering in Spring or Summer will be considered a semester student.

Either way, it is important to advise students by looking ahead toward the semester program. Students should be advised to take direct-matched courses in anticipation of the semester.

Student Advisement Reports (SAR) This is a temporary solution for advisement until DegreeWorks in April 2011. The DMPT courses do not populate into the SAR since there are no existing (quarter) codes for a direct match. Advisors will have to match courses manually.

All faculty should request access to KMS to see the most recent version of the crosswalk, since it will be an evolving document and faculty must be able to properly advise students.

Quick Guide Document: Barbara reviewed the Quick Guide to Conversion of Programs and Courses for Design and Media Technology programs. This is a document that she created as a tool for easy advisement for the degree, diploma and TCCs. This will assist the group by showing an easy comparison. The state still has not created the codes for each specialization.

Gen Ed changes The handout shows 4 areas now instead of 3 for the degree, an Area IV has been added to cover Humanities and Art Appreciation. Area IV courses are NOT skills-based. Area I includes Art (Drawing) as a skills-based course.

CONCLUSIONS Barbara will keep everyone up to date, as information changes often at the system office.

Jill will email sample transitional tracking sheets to assist with advisement to the List Serve.

PROGRAM/COURSE REVIEWS 30 MINUTES BARBARA JAMES

DISCUSSION There was discussion of duplicated courses within the system, and Marilu, Nikki and Brian expressed concern that similar courses being taught in CIS and BAT confuse the students, who are under the assumption that they can take other courses and get credit under PGT, CAM, etc. Barbara said that course duplication is not preferred at the state level. The group’s concern is that content expertise should be the most important factor in who teaches a course. Barbara also said that courses may be adjusted after one full cycle.

SCT 100 Jill and others discussed that SCT 100 is not appropriate for our program, since it only covers the Microsoft Office Suite, and no basic computer terminology or computer parts. There was discussion of whether or not the Intro to Mac course under the Commercial Photography program could be substituted. CONCLUSIONS Barbara will check requirements for SCT 100.
