DIBELS scores and Scantron reading scores were used to determine which students needed to attended our reading intervention summer school. Based on our data students who tested intensive and strategic were placed onto the summer school list. Each of these students were then given the San Diego Quick assessment and the Phonics for Reading assessment to determine the appropriate intervention. We placed 3 kindergarten students into a phonics intervention (K Pals) which focuses on phoneme segmentation, nonsense word, initial sounds and reading decodable books. We placed 4 first graders into a 30 minute phonics intervention (phonics for reading) and a 30 minute reading fluency intervention (Read Naturally). We placed 5 second grade student into a 30 minute phonics intervention (Phonics for Reading) and into a 30 minute reading fluency intervention (Read Naturally). Five third grade students were placed into a reading fluency intervention (Read Naturally). We placed 7 fourth grade students into a 30 minute phonics intervention (Rewards) and into a 30 minute reading fluency intervention (Read Naturally). We placed 6 fifth grade students and 6 sixth grade students into a fluency intervention (Read Naturally). These students will attend reading intervention summer school 4 times a week 1 hour per session for the month of June. (Please note that some parents opted not to send their students who were identified to attend the reading intervention summer school). Math Fact scores and Scantron math scores were used to determine which students needed to attend our math intervention summer school. Based on our data students who tested At Risk and Some Risk were placed onto the summer school list. Each of these students were then given the Rocket math placement assessment to determine the appropriate level of math fact intervention. Students who attended the math intervention summer program received a fact fluency intervention (Rocket Math) and math concepts intervention based on Scantron. Even though we did not have scores on Kindergarten we decided to give math instruction based on teacher recommendation to those kindergarten students who were placed into a phonics intervention. Based on the first grade teacher recommendation we placed 5 first graders into a math intervention (Pearson math intervention kit). We placed 4 second grade students into a math intervention based on teacher recommendation; these students were given instruction in math concepts in which they were struggling (Pearson math intervention kit). Eleven third grade students were placed into a math fact fluency intervention (Rocket math) and math concept intervention (Pearson math intervention kit). We placed 3 fourth grade students into a math fact fluency intervention (Rocket math) and math concept intervention (Pearson math intervention kit). We placed 6 fifth grade students into a math fact fluency (Rocket math) and math concept intervention (Pearson math intervention kit). Four sixth grade students were placed into a math concept intervention (Pearson math intervention kit). These students will attend math intervention summer school 4 times a week 1 hour per session for the month of June. (Please note that some parents opted not to send their students who were identified to attend the math intervention summer school). June 7-July 1st Reading and Math intervention Summer school. We had four teachers implement reading and math interventions based on student needs. Students who needed both reading and math were placed on a rotation schedule 1hr reading, 1hr math. All other students attended either 1hr reading or 1hr math. The SPDG coach modeled and monitored interventions through out the month.
