INGHAM COUNTY FARM BUREAU BOARD OF DIRECTOR’S MEETING MINUTES JUNE 8, 2012
The Ingham County Farm Bureau Board of Directors met Friday, June 8, 2012 in the conference room of the Ingham County Farm Bureau. President Laurie Koelling called the meeting to order at 7:30 a.m. Board members in attendance were (they are checked X):

Minutes and Financial Statements: John Allen moved to accept the March 2012 minutes as written, motion supported by Keith Rockwood. Motion passed.
Don Oesterle moved to accept the March 2012, April 2012, and the May 2012 financial statements as presented and placed on file, motion supported by John Allen. Motion passed.
New Memberships: John Allen moved to accept the March 2012, April 2012, and the May 2012 memberships as presented and placed on file and in addition change the membership status of Greg Thon from Associate to Regular, motion supported by Gladys Welker. Motion passed.
Correspondence: Thank you letters were received from Willliamston Explorer Elementary for Project RED and thank you notes from the Koelling family for a memorial and the Chapman family for a memorial.
Farm Bureau Insurance Report Mark Voss and Doug Atkinson attended this month’s meeting. Doug announced his retirement effective August 1 and that Mark would be his replacement.
No managing partner present, their report was submitted and handed out. Their report is on file at the county office.
Regional Representative Report Laura Hamlin’s report was handed out. Laura handed out Michigan’s Ag Plan booklet to all of the Board Members and would like that discussion item to be added to next month’s Board Meeting.

Unfinished Business:
Plat Books There have been some problems with obtaining plat information and Mapping Solutions contacted Barb to find out if the Board wanted to continue with the process. John Kemler moved to proceed with Mapping Solutions to create a new addition of a plat book, motion supported by Don Oesterle. Motion passed.
Fair Board Manager Terry Brail has been appointed as interim Manager of the Ingham County Fair for this year until another Manager can be permanently hired following the fair.
New Business:
990/990T Doug Kammann, Chief Financial Officer Michigan Farm Bureau attended this month’s Board Meeting of the Directors of the organization and a copy of the 990/990T was presented and action was taken by the Board to approve the returns. Gladys Welker moved to accept the 2010 990 and 990T as presented by Doug Kammann, motion supported by Jeannine Igl. Motion passed.
Ed Jones Investment No investment information was received by Ed Jones; investment discussion will be tabled for next month’s meeting.
Jeff Oesterle Endorsement Jeff Oesterle requested that the Board consider an endorsement prior to the primary and not wait for the general election. John Kemler moved that the Ingham County Farm Bureau Board of Directors endorse Jeff Oesterle for 67th District State House Representative, motion supported by John Allen. Motion passed.
Accidental Death and Dismemberment Program The Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company offers AD&D coverage to all members if a county participates in this program. Ingham County has previously participated in this benefit. The rate for this coverage is $.50 per eligible member. The benefit program has a continuous annual renewal policy and therefore needs to be renewed and approved by the Ingham County Board of Directors annually. Keith Rockwood moved that we continue providing this benefit to our members, motion supported by John Kemler. Motion passed.
Relay for Life Donation We received a request from Cheri Sterle on behalf of the Baseline Community Action Group for sponsorship for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life Walk in Mason. John Allen moved that we approve a $250 sponsorship, supported by John Kemler. Motion approved.

American Legion Flags The American Legion displays flags on holiday and asked if the Farm Bureau would be interested in placing a flag in front of the business each holiday from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Following discussion, the Board decided that we already display a lighted flag 24 hours per day, seven days a week and that we do not need to not participate in this program.
Committee Reports:
Candidate Evaluation: The Candidate Evaluation Committee met on June 30 with 10 candidates running for office. There were 18 committee members present. The committee has set a date of October 11, 2012 for a Meet the Candidate Night at Monsanto Research Facility in Mason.
Promotion & Education: Gladys Welker reported she conducted an Ag in the Classroom at Immaculate Heart of Mary Friday, April 13. She is also working on the Circle of Life Exhibit and getting the Food Stand ready for the Ingham County Fair.
Young Farmer: Keith Rockwood had nothing to report this month.
Adjourn: Meeting was adjourned at 9:15 a.m.
