Fall 2015 Ag Science Grant for McLean County McLean County Farm Bureau offers special funding to support educational programs that provide hands-on learning opportunities and instruction related to agricultural science to McLean County youth. Organizations, educators or students may apply to support programs that fit the following criteria: 1. Grant funds must be used for educational purposes (equipment, programs, research projects, etc.) Funds may not be used for food, parties, awards or fundraising activities. 2. Grant projects must be directly related to agricultural science. Agricultural science is defined as the application of soil, plant or animal sciences; computer science, mechanics or technology; and chemistry, physics or environmental sciences to the production of food, feed, fuel & fiber. 3. Categories of eligible applicants include: 1. Organizations – must be based in McLean County that serve local youth high school age & younger. Organizations may include but are not limited to 4-H clubs, extracurricular clubs and after school programs. (FFA Chapters are not eligible). 2. Educators – who teach McLean County youth high school age & younger. Projects should incorporate agriculture in STEM (Science Technology Engineering & Math) and/or Next Generation Science standards. 3. Individual FFA members, 4-H club members or students – must be a resident of McLean County to be eligible. The project should be research or science based and should not be a profit-seeking venture. 4. The Grant Request submission deadline is October 15, 2015. 5. Presentations: 1. (a) Grant recipients will be required to give a 10 minute presentation to the selection committee after completing their project. 2. (a) Organizations will be asked to give a presentation to their board of directors or an outside group, examples: PTO, Kiwanas club, Rotary, etc (b) Educators will be asked to give a brief presentation to their school board (c) Individual FFA members, 4-H club members or students will be required to give two presentations: one to their 4-H club, FFA chapter or Ag class and one to an outside group, examples: elementary class, Kiwanas club, Rotary, etc. 6. The selection committee has full discretion to determine grant eligibility and award amounts. Up to $2,500 will be available annually for the purposes of this grant. Funds will be distributed to successful applications by Dec. 1, 2015. 7.
