People often rush here and hurry there. Assignments come due, work and chores have to be completed, and people and animals need fed and nurtured. Often, we go to school, rush to practices, scamper to recitals, and scurry to meetings. Going, doing, and working are necessary because it is how we have come to expect results.
Our world runs because of people meeting deadlines as they work. However, our lives have become so hectic that we expect immediate gratification of our needs. We expect doctors to diagnose our illnesses in a timely way, or we get frustrated. We intend for teachers to grade our work soon, or we will not know if we’re passing. We pick a restaurant in which to eat based on how quickly we are served, or we think we will die of starvation.
It has become increasingly important for us to take a break from the busyness of our lives. To keep ourselves well, we need to balance the activity of our daily lives with some downtime. One key to living in a fast-paced, high energy world is finding a place to unwind and relax.
