Paul G. Blazer High School Site Based Decision Making Council June 7, 2010

Members Present: Mr. Runyon, Debbie Barnett, Cindy Worthington, Randy Carpenter, and Dr. Debbie Vincent. Absent: Heather Kirk

Attending Audience: Chris Whalen

Approval of Minutes Mr. Runyon called the meeting to order. Minutes from the May 10 meeting were approved as printed.

Budget Report Mr. Runyon reviewed the budget with the council members. Debbie Barnett made a motion to approve. Randy Carpenter seconded. Motion carried.

New Business Mr. Runyon gave the Council more information about the Dual Enrollment/Dual Credit classes. He thanked Mr. Carpenter for suggesting that a letter be sent to all junior parents. The response from the junior class was overwhelming. Therefore, the Council gave Mr. Runyon the approval to proceed with the Dual Enrollment/Dual Credit courses for the 2010-2011 school year. Mr. Runyon had been in contact with ACTC and decided that English 101 and General Psychology would be offered first semester and English 102 and Basic Public Speaking would be offered second semester.

Mr. Runyon introduced Chris Whalen, Blazer Band Director, who gave the Council more information on the sponsorship program that the band would like to have approved. Mr. Whalen discussed in more detail the different levels of sponsorships that would be available to local businesses. Randy Carpenter made a motion to approve the request. Dr. Debbie Vincent seconded. Motion carried.

Mr. Runyon discussed the request from Ms. Modlin about the Arts and Humanities Field Trip to New York City in March and the Choral Field Trip Request to New York City in April from Mrs. Hopkins. The Council was in agreement that the trips only enhance the opportunities for our students and was in full agreement on how beneficial they are. Funding of both trips was discussed and Mr. Runyon informed the Council that the students pay for the trips through different funding raising activities. Randy Carpenter made a motion to approve the trips. Cindy Worthington seconded. Motion carried.

Mr. Runyon informed the Council that the math posting had closed and he had interviewed a potential candidate who later declined the position. There are several other candidates who will be interviewed. Mr. Runyon informed the Council that he did not anticipate other teaching positions becoming open during the summer, but would inform them if there were. He did announce that there are several coaching positions available and these would be posted immediately. Blazer SBDM Page 2

Fund Raisers The following fundraisers were approved:

Debbie Barnett made a motion to approve. Dr. Debbie Vincent seconded. Motion carried.

Announcements Mr. Runyon presented the dates for SBDM training to the Council. He also thanked Mr. Carpenter for his work as a Council member this year.

The next regular SBDM meeting will be August 2 @ 10:00 a.m.

With no further business, meeting adjourned.
