How to Overcome Failure Occurring While Stopping Blackout in OEM

Avoid failure while stopping Blackout in OEM12c.

I have prepared this document, to educate users how they can avoid the failure that Occur while stopping Blackout. Most of the time I have seen that Blackout created during Weekly Maintenance never ends successfully.

This document describes the reason for the failure while ending Blackout and the steps to be followed to end the Blackout.

Listed Blackout with Status “Partial Blackout – Stop Failed” Step 1: Check the Select Box for the Failed Blackout and Click the View tab as shown below in the screenshot.

Step 2: Under the Selected Targets heading, look for the targets with the ERROR Message: “Unable to stop the blackout due to agent Un-availability”. This case is completely described in the below screenshot. Step 3: Login to the problematic Server using putty manager {if it is Linux Server} or using RDP {incase of Windows Server}. One of the Problematic Server is mentioned below in the screenshot. Step 4: Switch to the application specific user using SUDO command, like “psoft” for any PeopleSoft Server or “oracle” for database servers. Navigate to the Agent’s Location and check the status using “emctl status agent” command. Step 5: For sure the status in the last step will be “Agent is not running.” So Start the agent by issuing “emctl start agent” command. Confirm agent is started successfully without any errors.

Note: Do the same for all the Hosts listed under the Selected Targets as shown in Step 2. Step 6: Select the Partial Failed blackout and Click on the “Stop” button, on the confirmation page click on “Yes” button to submit the Blackout Ending Request. Step 7: The page will be refreshed and the status of the corrupted Blackout will soon change to Ended Successfully from Stop Pending. Once the blackout is ended, you will only see active blackout in the list.
