The Swan Lake and Tally Lake Districts of the Flathead National Forest are seeking interested candidates for multiple Lead Forestry Technicians, GS-462-6. The duty stations for these positions are in Kalispell, Montana and Bigfork, Montana. The vacancy announcements are currently posted in USAJOBs. POSITION DUTIES: Wildland Fire Engine. Serves as a lead wildland firefighter on a wildland fire engine. Drives and operates a wildland fire engine, positioning the engine for proper use and operation. Personally performs and directs others in starting pump engine, priming pump, adjusting engine speed and pump valves, laying hose, and using appropriate nozzles and nozzle adjustment in effective use of water and additives. Has specialized duties such as water handling specialist, fully qualified chain saw operator, or responsible for maintenance of specialized equipment used to respond to wildland urban interface/intermix situations. Ensures the engine is kept in a full state of readiness for emergency fire dispatch. Serves as initial attack Incident Commander.
OTHER SIGNIFICANT FACTS:
WORK CAPACITY TEST (WCT) for Wildland Firefighters: This position participates in wildland firefighting activities. Based on the type of work performed, TAKING and PASSING the WCT at the ARDUOUS level is a ''condition of employment.'' The Arduous fitness (Pack) Test consists of a three (3) mile hike, within forty-five (45) minutes, while carrying a forty-five (45) pound pack. Bargaining Unit Status: Eligible.
FIREFIGHTER RETIREMENT COVERAGE: Approved for primary firefighter coverage. Approved by USDA under FERS and CSRS on 03/25/2009, #C6. FS1478

OTHER CONDITIONS OF This position has been identified under the Interagency Fire Program Management EMPLOYMENT: (IFPM) and is subject to selective placement factor requirements contained in the Interagency Fire Program Management (IFPM) Standard and Guide when filling this vacancy. IFPM selective placement factors are made up of a primary and secondary National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) core Incident Management Qualifications and Required Training. The Forest: The Flathead National Forest includes 2,300,000 acres in the Northern Continental Divide Ecosystem. The spectacular glacial mountains feature majestic peaks, lush forests, snowfields, lakes and alpine. Waters of the Forest flow from numerous mountain streams into the Swan, Stillwater, and 3-forks of the Flathead River downstream into Flathead Lake, largest freshwater lake west of the Great Lakes. World-class wild lands include the Bob Marshall Wilderness Complex (BMWC), three nationally designated Wild & Scenic Rivers, and the adjacent Glacier National Park. As stewards of portions of both the BMWC and Northern Continental Divide Ecosystem, the Forest has a responsibility to provide educational opportunities to help sustain this incredible landscape for future generations.
