2. Project Title: Santa Monica Bay Watershed Catch Basin Trash Excluders 3. Project Purpose – Problem Being Addressed: This project will help to address the problem of trash entering the Santa Monica Bay through urban runoff in storm drains that flows to the ocean. This trash affects marine life and beach water quality, posing a threat to public health.

4. Project Goals a. Short-term Goals: The goal is to improve the overall water quality in the Santa Monica Bay by preventing trash and from entering the Bay through storm drain catch basins. b. Long-term Goals: The goal is to improve the overall water quality in the Santa Monica Bay by preventing trash and from entering the bay through the storm drain catch basins. This project will help restore and protect the Bay and its resources by reducing the amount of trash that currently enters into the Bay while protecting the health of beachgoers and the coastal environment. 5. Project Location: (lat/longs, watershed, etc.) This project is widespread throughout the Santa Monica Bay Watershed in an effort to make a greater impact. Specifically, the trash excluders will be installed in the Cities of El Segundo, Hermosa Beach, Inglewood, Manhattan Beach, Rancho Palos Verdes, Santa Monica, and West Hollywood.

a. Physical Size of Project: (miles, acres, sq. ft., etc.) Approximately 500 trash excluders will be installed. With an average per catch basin opening of approximately 7 square feet, the total project will screen about 3,500 square feet of open catch basins.
