Red Cross Te Kura provides for secondary students to attend a one and a half day Comprehensive First Aid Course. The Red Cross have training rooms throughout the country, and offer courses many times a month. Because of this we do not list each individual course. Unit Standards: Level 1: 6402 – Provide resuscitation (1 credit) Level 2: 6401 – Provide First Aid (1 credit) Level 3: 6400 – Manage first aid in emergency situations (2 credits)

A Mean Bean Become a certificated barista: Training as a barista takes much more than knowing your cappuccino from your mochaccino! This is a comprehensive course covering all the basics of coffee making – from blending and roasting through to serving the perfect cup.

IT Course Avonmore’s Introduction to IT programme is designed to be practical and informal and most assessment is by observation. Classes are handled with clear directions, explicit instructions and simple tasks. Learners on the IT programme are exposed to a range of practical activities and assessments – both formative and summative.

The students will receive a Certificate of Achievement for each module they complete, along with the credit value of each unit. Each IT programme will begin at 9:00am and finishes at 2:00pm and is broken up with two 15 minute breaks and 30 minutes for lunch. The Avonmore Introduction to IT programme provides you with a ‘taste’ of the technical and support aspect of the IT industry.

Further tertiary training in this area is offered by Avonmore’s Diploma at Level 5 on the NQF.

Introductory Module (Unit Level 2)

Aim:

This module focuses on the knowledge of personal computers. Students will be able to identify the main features and purposes of hardware components, understand the differences between different operating systems, identify common threats to stored data and measures that can be used to minimised these threats. They also learn about the relationships between hardware and software and how to troubleshoot issues in these areas

Lil’s Learner Licence This 3 day driver licensing course run by Lil Emery prepares you for the actual Learners Licence test

The cost of the programme is paid for by Te Kura but does not cover the cost of the license itself, however it will mean that you have everything you need to ensure you don’t need to re-sit your test. Lil’s programme has a 98% success rate.

Bring:

 Either: Original Birth certificate or Passport or 18+ card

 Verification of Postal Address (Bank Statement)

Fee of $93.90 to be taken to AA to sit the test on the day.

Aunty April’ Barista Over the course of this 3 day program you will learn foundation Barista skills and learn how extracting the perfect shot is essential to being a great Barista. Including:

Standard industry techniques to make a range of espresso beverages

Adjusting the grind of the coffee

Extracting the perfect shot!

With your choice of completing the practical only, or obtaining NZQA credits (17285 Demonstrate knowledge of commercial espresso coffee equipment and prepare espresso beverages under supervision (Level 2, Credits 4))

Communication and Leadership About:

An interactive, action packed two days course teaches students key skills and knowledge in relationship management, performance management, and workplace organizational principles required for first line managers. Made up of three level three standards, this course is module one of the National Certificate in First Line Management and is perfect for students wanting to become Team leaders, supervisors, or charge hands likely to be responsible for managing people, resources, and/or work operations. This course is also ideal for students that need to get out of their comfort zone and build confidence before leaving school.

Everyone who completes X-Factor Plus Essential Workplace Skills will be equipped with essential written and oral communication skills and employment law knowledge, to ensure any transition into a workplace can be completed to standards acceptable to employers. This will grow confidence for any student preparing to enter any industry.
