SATURDAY TEACHING ASSISTANT POSITION: K-5 Program University of Virginia Saturday Enrichment Program 2018

In conjunction with the Curry School of Education Gifted Education Department, the Saturday Enrichment Program (SEP) is seeking Saturday Teaching Assistants. This position involves working with an assigned teacher & class five consecutive Saturdays beginning January 20, 2018 and ending February 17, 2018 (save one additional Saturday—February 24—in case of a snow day). Each Saturday, Teaching Assistants are asked to work with two sessions of the same class: 9:00-11:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Salary is $12.00 per hour during the program dates. Specific job requirements of Teaching Assistants include the following:

1. Most importantly, have a passion for connecting with young gifted learners and sharing your enthusiasm and expertise with them!

2. All SEP staff must attend orientation session on Wednesday, January 17 at 5:00 p.m. to cover logistics and safety issues.

3. Contact and meet with your assigned teacher on your own time before the program begins. Work effectively with your assigned teacher and class. You will be actively involved in facilitating small groups, organizing resources, writing student reports, etc.

4. Teaching assistants are to report to their classrooms no later than 8:30 a.m. each day (8:00 a.m. on the first Saturday). Classes are from 9:00-11:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. You must be available to work all Saturdays between January 20 and February 24 in order to be hired.

5. Be open to learning and willing to grow your own teaching practice!

Dates to remember:  Teaching Assistant applications are due by Friday, September 29.  Staff orientation will be on Wednesday, January 17 (5:00 – 6:00 p.m.). This orientation session is mandatory for all SEP staff and addresses program logistics and safety issues.  Classes will be on Saturday, January 20, January 27, February 3, 10, and 17, with February 24 as a snow date. Report to your classroom no later than 8:30 a.m. each day (8:00 a.m. on the first Saturday).
