A RESOLUTION Adjourning the Senate in Loving Memory and Honor of Mack J. Morgan, Jr

A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in loving memory and honor of Mack J. Morgan, Jr. With deepest respect and admiration, we pay homage and tribute to Mack J. Morgan, Jr., and we pause in silent reverence for his soul. WHEREAS, Mack J. Morgan, Jr. was born on June 19, 1928, a native of Lexington, Fayette County, Kentucky, and he traversed these earthly bounds on December 2, 2001; and WHEREAS, Mack J. Morgan, Jr. was the loving son of the late Mack J. Morgan and Malinda McDonald Morgan; he was the devoted husband of Mary Rose Morgan, and he was the loving father of a son, Mack J. Morgan III of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and a daughter, Cathy Morgan Elliott of Atlanta, Georgia, and he was the proud grandfather of five granddaughters; and WHEREAS, Mack J. Morgan, Jr. began his career with the Kentucky Retail Federation in 1966 as development director, and in 1971, he became president of the Federation and remained in that position until his retirement on July 1, 1992; and during his twenty-seven years of service to the organization, he oversaw the emergence of the Federation as one of the most highly respected and effective groups in the Commonwealth; and WHEREAS, Mack J. Morgan, Jr. brought national prominence to the Kentucky

Retail Federation by being elected twice as the president of the National Conference of State Retail Associations, and he served on the Board and Executive Committee of the American Retail Federation, the national organization representing retailers, now known as the National Retail Federation; and WHEREAS, Mack J. Morgan, Jr., because of his expertise in his profession, was appointed by past Governors of Kentucky to serve on numerous state commissions, committees, and task forces, including the Social Service Advisory Committee, the Task Force on Administrative Services, the Consumer Affairs Commission, the Workers'

Compensation Review Commission, the Executive Committee of the Citizens Task Force on Education, and the Governor's Economic Development Commission; and WHEREAS, Mack J. Morgan, Jr. was asked to represent the lobbyists in Kentucky as the speaker to newly-elected legislators during the Legislative Research Commission's Legislative Freshman Orientation Program, and he continued to represent the lobbyists in this manner even after his retirement in 1992; and WHEREAS, Mack J. Morgan, Jr. served his country with pride and distinction in the United States Army, serving thirty-six years of active and reserve service, and at the time of his retirement, he held the rank of Major General; his last tour of duty was served in the Pentagon, and he was presented with the Distinguished Service Medal, the nation's highest military peacetime award; and WHEREAS, the passing of Mack J. Morgan, Jr. has left a void that cannot be filled, and he is mourned across the length and breadth of the Commonwealth; NOW, THEREFORE, Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky: Section 1. The Senate does hereby express its utter sense of bereavement upon the passing of Mack J. Morgan, Jr., and extends to his family and many friends its most sincere and deepest sympathy.

Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in loving memory and honor of Mack J. Morgan, Jr. Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is hereby directed to transmit three copies of this Resolution to Mr. Mack J. Morgan III, 1638 Queenstown Road, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73116.
