We’re Going On A Field Trip Kentucky Living Archeology Day Dear Parents / Guardians, On Friday, September 19th, the 5th graders at OES will be taking a bus to the Gladie Cultural-Environmental Learning Center in the beautiful Red River Gorge of Daniel Boone National Forest. Here they will attend Kentucky Living Archeology Day! Students will have the chance to learn about how various people lived in the Gorge over hundreds and thousands of years. Some of the educational activities that the students will participate in focus on American Indian and pioneer life. Students will also get to see and participate in demonstrations / hands-on activities, such as flint knapping, hide tanning, basket weaving, spinning, pottery making, throwing a spear, grinding corn, using a pump drill, and learning a Shawnee dance or a Cherokee game. The bus will leave around 8:25 and students will return to school around 2:45. The cost of the trip will be $8.00, this includes the cost of the trip and the bus. Bag lunches will be provided for students (students may bring their own lunch). Parents if you would like to chaperon you must have a background check on file and also provide your own transportation to the Gorge. Your child will need to bring: o Field-trip permission form (below) o $8.00 to pay for the cost of trip & bus o Dress appropriately for the weather (may need hoodie, umbrella, & tennis shoes if it rains or is cold.) Keep this note at home and post it as a reminder. Thank you!
