Elementary Principal S Meeting

Coaches’ Meeting August 31, 2010 a) easyCBM Math:  The assessment is available for grades K-6 and is administered 3 times per year.  The assessment questions are displayed and answered on a computer via your web browser.  There are no materials to print or purchase. Free with the DIBELS NEXT subscription.  Each grade has three subtests based on the focal points laid out by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM). Our state standards are aligned to the NCTM Focal Points.  Each subtest includes 16 questions.  Assessments are not timed. b) Benchmark goals will be available as soon as that data has been analyzed. The Data System will not include easyCBM math progress monitoring assessments during the 2010-11 school year, but we are exploring possibilities for inclusion of progress monitoring during the 2011-12 school year. c) The math assessments can be administered 3 times per year. The beginning of year assessment will need to occur during the first 3 months of your school year, but does not have to be given during the same month as your DIBELS testing. Likewise, the middle of year math assessment must be given during the 4th-6th month of your school year and the end of year assessment must be given during the 7th-10th month of the year. (September/October, January, May) d) Instructional Coaches will create DIBELS NEXT and easyCBM Math classes. Roster your students in the Data System under the primary class as you normally do for the DIBELS assessment. You will then have the option to assign them to an additional math class, similar to the way our secondary classes currently work. After a math class is set up, you will receive a code for the class to access the assessment. Each student will appear on a pull-down menu for selection prior to starting the test. e) There is a "read aloud" feature for Kindergarten and First grade students. An adult can also read the questions to students if no microphone capability on computers. f) Each assessment includes 3 subtests with 16 questions each, for a total of 48 questions. Most students take about 15-30 minutes to complete all 48 questions. If a student doesn't complete a subtest during a single sitting, he or she can return and complete the test at a later time as the program will save their place and allow them to resume where they left off. The assessment is not timed. g) All questions are multiple-choice. Sample assessment questions for each grade level and focal point are available on our Resources page. (https://dibels.uoregon.edu/resources/easyCBM_math/) h) A student may only use a calculator if is allowed on their IEP or 504 plan. No other use of a calculator is permitted. All students are permitted to use a pencil and scratch paper while taking the assessment.
