Report on Professional Development Day Supply Chain Management June 13, 2007 by Patricia Jankun The Ontario Chapter of the Financial Management Institute of Canada held a successful Professional Development day on Supply Chain Management on June 13, 2007, at the University of Toronto, with 105 participants, including webcast participants in Peterborough, Sault Ste. Marie, Thunder Bay, London and Guelph.

The following are the highlights: Dan Wright, Assistant Deputy Minister, BPS Supply Chain Secretariat, Treasury Board Office Discussed and provided excellent examples on the following:  Why Supply Chain matters  The Obstacles  Transformation in Action  OntarioBuys Integrated Supply Chain Management Framework with examples  Performance Metrics  Ontario Education Collaborative Marketplace John Read former Senior Directors of Military Procurement; and Acquisition Policy and Process PSMW Canadian Government Presented a frank and fascinating lecture on:  Federal Procurement – what it is  Drivers for Change – key developments and decisions  What lies ahead Nicholas Seiersen, Senior Manager, KPMG Provided a captivating talk on the “Seven Plaques of Public Sector Procurement”, including:  The traditional Supply Chain  Challenges with Supply Chain processes (including several case studies)  Succeeding with Supply Chain processes Franca Gemignani, EMBA Presented an interesting overview of the:  Ontario Education Collaborative MarketPlace (OECM) o OECM is an electronic marketplace that connects buyers and suppliers together to facilitate more effective, efficient procurement. It is buyer-led. OECM’s longer term operating and governance models are currently under consider. OECM’s initiative is being supported by the Ministry of Finance (MoF).  OECM Progress Update and Next Steps

Evaluation of the 2006/07 PD Days These events will be webcast to participants in Ontario Government offices in the following locations: The overall satisfaction of attendees stayed the same  London at very good (almost excellent).
