3= The evidence provided by the student demonstrates excellence in the targeted skill. The student trains a minimum of 30 minutes per week. The student actively works toward increasing the calibrated vocabulary by training in short, frequent (across days not within a day) sessions. The student adds at least 5 words per week to the number of words mastered at the beginning of the semester and supports this mastery with above average test results.
2.5= The evidence provided by the student demonstrates clear proficiency in the targeted skill. The student trains a minimum of 25 minutes per week. The student works toward increasing a vocabulary level but may train in long sessions instead of short ones. The student adds at least 4 words per week to the number of words mastered at the beginning of the semester and supports this mastery with above average test results.
2= The evidence provided by the student meets the basic criteria for the targeted skill. The student trains a minimum of 20 minutes per week. The student may add new words but does not exhibit steady progress toward the next level due to lack of training or sessions that are too long. The student adds at least 3 words per week to the number of words mastered at the beginning of the semester and supports this mastery with at least average test results.
1.5=The evidence provided by the student is approaching understanding of the skill. The student trains at least 15 minutes per week. The student adds few new words, remaining at the starting level. The student adds 3 or fewer words per week to the number of words mastered at the beginning of the semester and test results support this.
1=The evidence provided by the student is unacceptable for a college bound student. The student trains less than 10 minutes per week and rarely adds new words, averaging fewer than 2 words per week. The student with fewer than 3 words per week will not be invited to confirm their understanding of these words with a test.
0= The student has not trained or added new words.
