Homer S Iliad Book 22 a Visual Review

Homer’s Iliad – Book 22 – A Visual Review Name ______

The figurative (or descriptive) language in Book 22 of the Iliad has inspired artists, graphic novelists, and filmmakers alike. Homer’s description of the climactic battle scene between Achilles and Hector helped Greek audiences visualize the drama. In 800 BCE, hearing Book 22 performed was the equivalent of watching a television finale or a long-awaited summer blockbuster. The descriptions were just as important as the outcome of the story. The language made the story real.

To fully appreciate the descriptive language, re-visit the passages noted and complete the following “visual” review. You may use your book or your study guide to help complete this review. You will draw some scenes and paraphrase others.
