Welcome to Mr. Eckert’s Class!

I welcome you to my class and hope that you learn a great amount throughout the course. I also hope that you will look back on your experience here as a very positive experience. With that goal in mind, please carefully read the following: CLASS RULES: there are only two, but they are packed with meaning! Make sure you understand both!

1. PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY  Show up on time, with all necessary supplies, ready to work. Plan ahead.  As a student, you are responsible for the physical safety of the school, yourself, and others.  Anyone who loses his or her self-control may be moved or removed from class until he or she gets it back. 2. MUTUAL RESPECT  Everyone treats everyone else with respect, appreciation, and consideration.  Only one person talks at a time. When the teacher is talking, stop what you are doing and listen.  Help others whenever possible. Ask for help whenever needed. THE FIRST SECRET TO SUCCESS: SHOW UP!  It is a proven fact that students with good  Make arrangements with me to makeup any labs attendance do well. SHOW UP ON TIME  Late students miss important information,  Late students disturb others, and interrupt/annoy the class & teacher.  Late students will enter only when it's convenient for me to let them in.  You are NOT LATE when: YOU ARE SITTING IN YOUR SEAT, READY TO WORK, WHEN THE BELL STARTS RINGING.  YOU ARE LATE if you are walking into class or to your seat when the bell rings.  YOU ARE LATE if you "leave your books" at your desk before the bell, then leave the class to do something and don't arrive until after the bell. You are not your books! -- they cannot "fill in" for you!! If You Arrive at My Class After the Bell Has Rung... 1. Stand quietly outside the door. 2. DO NOT KNOCK!! I will get you when it is convenient for the class. 3. Realise that any time spent outside of my class must be made up, at my discretion. There may also be unpleasant penalties associated with habitual tardiness. PLEASE DO WHAT IS NECESSARY TO ARRIVE TO CLASS ON TIME. I suggest that you bring your books to the class you get before my class  If a teacher holds you after class to speak with you or you are late because you are finishing up a test, get a note from that teacher. Don't tell me to go ask this person or that person. It is YOUR responsibility to provide a note. What I like to hear: 1. An apology. "I am sorry that I am late. I regret that I am disturbing the class and taking away from your teaching time." 2. Taking Personal Responsibility: "I take full responsibility or being late. I did not plan adequately. I accept any punishment that you deem necessary." 3. A Pledge to Correct the Behaviour: "I will not be late again. I will always bring my books to my previous class so that I will get here on time.  Punishment for being late includes: Making up time at lunch, before school, after school, cleaning time, phone calls home, extra assignments.
