Carson Elementary Enrichment Fall 2016
We are so excited to offer enrichment opportunities again at Carson Elementary! This year all payments will be paid directly to the vendor via check. Please fill out the bottom of this form and return it to Carson Elementary no later than FRIDAY, September 9th. All enrichment will start on Monday, September 12th and run for 8 weeks until the week of October 31st. If the class misses a day because of a non-student contact day at school, the enrichment will notify you of the make-up date. All enrichments will run for 8 weeks unless otherwise noted. MONDAYS Kids Stage: Auditorium Mondays 3:45-5:15pm, final performance on 11/7 at 6pm What grades: K-5 Maximum number of students: 20 Minimum number of students: 12 Total weeks: 8 Payment: $140 made out to KidStage KidStage is a theatre and acting class for kids! The curriculum includes concentration, teamwork, improvisation, movement, voice and basic theatre terminology. At the end of the class, KidStage kids will perform for peers and parents. This year the play will be Snow White and the Dwarves! All classes are taught by trained instructors, whose goal is to teach your child about the excitement of theatre, improve your child’s self-confidence, and to provide a safe, fun and interesting environment. KidStage will strengthen your child’s confidence as well as build teamwork, leadership, reading, and vocabulary!
Make a Movie: Art Room Mondays 3:45-5 PM What grades: 1-5 Maximum number of students: 12 Minimum number of students: 5 Total weeks: 8 Payment: $176 made out to Elizabeth Yarnell Our filmmaking programs are designed to engage elementary schoolers in a real movie production process. Very few moviemaking programs target kids in grades 1 through 8, but our instructors are trained to guide our young students from envisioning and developing their stories to bringing them to life on screen. With more than five years of program development under our belt and more than 1,000 students who have taken our courses, we feel confident that the Digistars program boasts an educationally robust curriculum that integrates art and technology in a fun and exciting way. Our professional instructors engage students in collaborative efforts that encourage teamwork while respecting each individual’s contributions. Shooting Stars Soccer: Gym/Field Mondays 3:45-5:00 What grades: K-2 and 3-5 Maximum number of students: 30 Minimum number of students: 8 Total weeks: 8 Weeks Payment: $80 to Overtime Athletics GOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAALLLLLL! Take your game to the next level! Join us for Shooting Stars Soccer and learn to play Soccer like the pros! Coaches will teach you skills like dribbling, passing, trapping, shooting and defense. This program emphasizes fitness, teamwork and sportsmanship. Have a blast and make new friends playing World Cup Tournament, Battle Balls, Trapper 500, Corner Kick Challenge and Soccer Knockout. Hero’s Destiny: Outside and on the Playground Mondays 3:45-5:15 What grades: 1-5 Maximum number of students: 21 Minimum number of students:3 Total weeks: 8 Payment: $144 to Robert Marshall or Heroes Destiny Have you ever wanted to grow old alongside the Elves? Ask for cooking advice from a dragon? Learn to track like a fox? Discover the histories of the Dwarven nations? These are just a drop in the bucket of all the things that we can guide your child through on an imaginative storytelling journey. Have your child join us for afternoons filled with challenges, puzzles, riddles, brain- storming, daring swashbuckling fights, and more games found within our world of flight and fantasy come to life through the age old tradition of interactive storytelling. Save the best for last by finishing up the school day with Sports Spectacular, a variety athletic program that features different sports throughout the session. Participants will practice skills and play games in both traditional sports and playground favorites. The Sports Spectacular Variety Program features the best “to-do” list ever – Basketball, Soccer, Flag Football, Kickball, Capture the Flag, Wiffle Ball, Bump and Bite, Knights and Dragons, Numbers Game, Tag Games, Safe Base and MORE! Mad Science: Library Tuesdays 3:45 to 5:00 Grades: 1-5 Maximum Number of Students: 20 Minimum Number of Students: 6 Total Weeks: 8 Payment: $109 to Mad Science Join Mad Science as we explore Physics, Chemistry, Meteorology and Zoology. We’ll build super structures, work in the lab, and investigate the fascinating way animals disguise themselves. We will conduct hands-on experiments to understand how and why weather occurs and learn that air affects weather. Super Structures introduces children to the fascinating science of architecture and engineering. This program also introduces the basic tools and techniques that scientists use in the laboratory. The students will develop their scientific vocabulary and fine- motor skills and perform experiments and analyze their results to differentiate between the chemical and physical changes that may occur in a reaction. It’s an adventure across the science spectrum…so come mix it up with Mad Science WEDNESDAY YOGA: Gym Wednesdays 8:00-8:45 Grades:K-5 Maximum Number of Students: 18 Minimum Number of Students: 6 Total Weeks: 8 Payment: $104 to Radiant Beginnings. This class meets Wednesday mornings. Energize and focus with A.M. yoga! This class consists of postures that energize and wake up the body, upbeat music, cardio, mind/body games, handstands, and breath work. Sound Formation Music: Auditorium Wednesdays 3:45-5:00 Grades: K-5 Minimum Number of Students:4 Maximum Number of Students: 8 Weeks: 8 weeks Payment: $176 to Sound Formation Class Description: Hand-percussion is the ideal starting point and foundation for all music aspirants. You will be amazed at how your rhythm on percussion, will transfer over to piano, violin, and any other instrument. Our curriculum is simple, comprehensive, and delivers amazing results in a short time. The atmosphere is one of strategic games, enhancing creativity, having fun, connectivity, growing listening ability, developing attention, and strengthening each child’s learning ability. Arts and Crafts with Ms. Weir: Art Room Wednesdays from 3:45-5:00 Grades: K-5 Minimum Number of Students: 12 Maximum Number of Students: 24 Total Weeks: 8 weeks Payment: $130 to Julie Weir Students will have the opportunity to explore and create several art projects using a variety of mediums and materials, such as clay, painting, drawing, collage and sculpture. They will be exposed to various artistic techniques and processes for some amazing creations. THURSDAY Strings with Ms. Zerbe: Auditorium Thursdays from 3:45-5:30 Grades: 4th and 5th Grade Maximum number of students: 30 Minimum number of students: 5 Total weeks: 8 Payment: $110 to Ms. Zerbe Get a head start on learning a string instrument, or enrich your previous experience! All skill levels are accepted, and we will learn together using a method book. This class is designed for violin, viola, cello and bass. Rentals will be provided for instruments, shoulder rests, wood polish cloths, and books. Students who sign up must have their own instrument or rent from Golden Music, or Carson has violins that you can rent for free. First come first served for Carson's violins!
Bricks 4 Kidz: Library Thursdays from 3:45-5:00 What grades: K-5 Maximum number of students: 18 Minimum number of students: 8 Total weeks: 8 Payment: $96 to Bricks 4 Kidz Hands on classes where students use architecture and engineering principles using LEGO Brick, Motors, and Batteries. Our STEM based projects will include engaging themes such as amusement park rides, natural disasters, space, and more. Join us for a hands-on fun learning experience.
Junior Robotics: Art Room Thursdays from 3:45-5:00 What grades: K-5 Maximum number of students: 18 Minimum number of students: 8 Total weeks: 8 Payment: $96 to Bricks 4 Kidz How would you like to turn your next LEGO creation into a robot, programmed to do exactly what you tell it to do? The Bricks 4 Kidz Junior Robotics classes offers all the fun of building with LEGO Bricks, plus the challenge of computer programming! Using drag-and drop, icon- based software, the WeDo software provides an introduction to the world of computer programming and robotics that will equip children to succeed in a technology-based marketplace. These fun, action-packed classes combines real life skills with real kid fun! FRIDAY Sticky Fingers: Art Room Fridays from 3:45-5:00pm What grades: K-5 Maximum number of students: 12 Minimum number of students: 8 Total weeks: 8 Payment: $140 to Sticky Fingers In every delicious Sticky Fingers class, kids get hands-on experience preparing nutritious food that they’ll love. Long Term Enrichments: Colorado Honor Band- Auditorium Tuesdays 4:00-5:30 What grades: 4th and 5th Maximum number of students: 20 Minimum number of students: 5 Total weeks: 13 weeks (Until December 13th) Payment: $195.00 to Colorado Honor Band Colorado Honor Band Association is a 501c3 non-profit organization that provides high quality music education for students in the greater Denver-metropolitan area. Our extra-curricular program fills a unique niche in the community with an education model that blends full- ensemble instruction, small-group training, and one-on-one coaching. In addition to year-round classes with seasonal performance opportunities, we hold a yearly overnight summer music camp and regularly travel nationally and internationally.
Spanish with Mrs. Pezoa Intermediate Spanish: Mondays and Fridays 7:55-8:55 Students will enjoy learning Spanish through stories, games and play that is fun and engaging. Intermediate Spanish has more reading. What grades: Intermediate Spanish skills, Grades 3-5 as a “general rule” Where is the enrichment held: Mrs. Pezoa's Room 102A Maximum number of students: 12 Minimum number of students: 5 Total weeks: All year, twice a week, starting September 12, ending May 19 **62 classes through the year; because many Mondays and Fridays are non-student-contact days, I am offering some Tuesday or Thursday am classes to keep the Intermediate and Primary Enrichment classes equal.
