Funds will help the Lower Kuskokwim School District address a wide array of problems throughout the district. Grants for Joann A. Alexie, Ayaprum, and Lewis Angapak schools will be used to install wastewater treatment facilities to replace overtaxed sewage lagoons. Grants for Chief Paul, Dick R. Kiyuna, Kwigillingok, and Ayaprum schools will allow the district to install potable water storage systems to provide sufficient and safe water to the school populations. Grants for Nelson Island and William Miller Schools will replace failing electrical generators and fire alarm systems. Grants for Akula Elitnaurvik, Eek, Kwethluk, and Qugcuun schools will replace failing fire alarm systems. A grant for the Lewis Angapak School will replace defective fuel storage tanks and delivery services. Together these 13 schools serve approximately 1,490 Alaska Native children. North Chicago School District will use these funds to replace failing fire alarm systems at Green Bay Elementary School, Marjorie P. Hart Elementary School, Neal Math and Science Academy, North Chicago High School and the Novak-King Sixth Grade Center. These schools serve approximately 2,300 children associated with Great Lakes Naval Training Center.

Lame Deer Public School District #6 Montana

Lame Deer Junior High School $687,632

These funds will be used to remove black mold and add additional classroom space to improve the health and safety conditions at the Lame Deer Junior High School, which serves approximately 125 children from the Northern Cheyenne Reservation.

Main Building $16,316 Math & Science Building $66,818

One grant will be used to replace dangerous lockers and to repair handicap accessible egresses in the main building. The second grant will replace the floor and roof, install energy efficient windows and doors, reconstruct the foyer, and install handicap accessible egress in the math and science building. This district serves approximately 75 Native American children in Dixon, Montana.

Heart Butte Public Schools Montana

These funds will be used to construct a new High School/Junior High School Vocational/Technology Center, to serve approximately 110 children from the Blackfeet Reservation.

Funding:

Solen High School $3,957,300

These funds will be used to replace the school’s roof; repair the gymnasium floor, bleachers and exits; and repair lighting, electrical and air exchange systems and other code violations throughout Solen High School. The school serves approximately 180 children from the Standing Rock Reservation.

Dunseith School District #1 North Dakota

Funding:

Dunseith School $114,359

Funds will be used to repair roof leakage and replace the cafeteria dishwasher. Dunseith School District serves approximately 460 children from the Turtle Mountain Reservation.

Taholah School District #77 Washington

Superintendent: Leon Strom 360/276-4729

Funding:

Taholah K-12 Bldg. $1,128,225

Funds will be used to replace exterior wall finishes, windows and electrical systems, and repair internal and external structural deficiencies caused by a failing roof system at the Taholah K-12 school building, which serves approximately 250 children from the Quinault Reservation.
