Rental Agreement Lingo

Objective Students interpret and analyze terms of rental agreements by examining the lingo used in these agreements.

Description Working individually or in teams, students will complete the rental agreement worksheet. Students often sign apartment rental agreements without an understanding of what the agreement really means. Rental agreements are a contract between the tenant and landlord. Reading and interpreting sections from rental agreements can help students understand their rights and responsibilities.

Procedure

Have students complete the worksheet in class.

1. Give students 5 to 10 minutes to read and review sample rental agreement forms. 2. Distribute the handout "Rental Lingo." and ask students to complete the worksheet. 3. Debrief as a class by reviewing responses using the teacher key as a guide.
