Position Description: Physician Recruiter
Position Purpose: The Physician Recruiter plans, coordinates, implements, and directs all activities for the recruitment and hiring of primary care physicians, specialty care physicians, and advanced practice providers for the HealthPartners Medical Group and Clinics and Regions Hospital. This includes HealthPartners staff model and blended clinics, specialty departments and affiliated clinics throughout the Twin Cities metropolitan area, outstate Minnesota, and western Wisconsin. This position advises and collaborates with senior management within the HealthPartners organization with regard to physician recruitment and retention, staffing budgetary compliance, hiring strategies, search/selection committee management, and physician recruitment consultation with affiliated clinics and healthcare organizations throughout Minnesota and Wisconsin.
Reporting Relationship: The Physician Recruiter reports to the Senior Director, Physician Services.
Key Working Relationships: The Physician Recruiter must maintain key working relationships with the HealthPartners Medical Group: • Medical Director • Associate and Assistant Medical Directors • Department Heads, Primary and Specialty Care • Regional Assistant Medical Directors • Clinic Chiefs of Professional Services • Hospital, Clinic and Departmental Administrative Management
Working Relationships: To accomplish the intended outcomes, the Physician Recruiter must maintain effective working relationships with: • Physician Services Department staff • HealthPartners and Regions Hospital administrative and support staff • Regions Hospital based and local/regional residency programs • Regional and national physician associations and societies • Independent recruitment firms (temporary and permanent provider staffing) • External vendors (ie., advertising agencies, moving companies, realtors)
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in a related field or related healthcare background, demonstrated effective communication and negotiation skills, strong organizational and complex process management abilities. Must effectively work and communicate with all disciplines and levels of professionals. Sales, marketing and/or public relations experience helpful. Knowledge of HealthPartners a plus. Upon hiring, maintained membership in the Association for Staff Physician Recruiters (ASPR) is preferred. Position Description Physician Recruiter Page 2
Position Responsibilities: 1. Advise and strategize with the Medical Director, Associate Medical Directors, Department Heads, Regional Assistant Medical Directors, Chiefs of Professional Services, Regional/Clinic Site Managers, and Administrative Directors regarding recruitment, candidate interview and hiring processes for HealthPartners physician and advanced practice providers.
2. Develop, plan, implement and manage all methods to generate candidates, including national/local/Internet advertising, direct mail, resident-related events and activities, marketing and promotional materials, and website development and maintenance. Develop and maintain the provider on-line application system and process.
3. Manage all aspects of HealthPartners physician recruitment and hiring. This includes screening and responding to candidate inquiries; contacting and discussing HealthPartners opportunities, candidate qualifications and best clinic/practice match; presenting candidate to Department Head/clinic/department for employment consideration; overseeing preparation of itinerary and interview site visit(s) processes; following up with candidate/department to determine continued interest; negotiating terms of employment; generating offer and employment letters; initiating post-hiring processes with other Physician Services Department sections; coordinating household moving process with candidate and vendors.
4. Provide consultative physician recruitment services to internal HealthPartners customers (ie., Department Heads, Chiefs of Professional Services, VP Regional Hospital Partnerships) and external customers (ie., affiliated clinics and healthcare organizations). This involves marketing the Physician Services Department’s recruitment services, including strategies and interview processes, methods to generate candidate leads, and negotiation of independent recruitment firm contracts and candidate contracts.
5. Act as Committee Coordinator by advising and coordinating search and selection processes for HPMG physician management level positions. This involves teaming with the Chairperson to organize each search/selection process; educating committee members on protocol and process procedures; developing and placing advertising; screening candidate curriculum vitaes; overseeing coordination of interview site visits; guiding committee members through the interview and evaluation processes; negotiating the final committee recommendation to the sponsor; teaming with the sponsor in negotiating an employment offer to the selected candidate; providing formal process follow-up and closure with the committee and all candidates.

Position Responsibilities (continued): 6. Facilitate processes for physician and advanced practice provider internal transfers, promotions, and staffing adjustments as directed by physician leadership.
7. Develop and implement an annual HealthPartners physician/advanced practice provider recruitment and retention plan. This may include coordinating physician recruitment and retention activities; selecting and attending national and local medical conferences; planning and attending resident recruitment activities and events; developing marketing brochures and promotional pieces; networking with local and national colleagues through the Upper Midwest Physician Recruiter Group (UMPRG) and the Association of Staff Physician Recruiters (ASPR); and attending related ASPR educational functions.
8. Manage, guide and provide direction to the Physician Recruitment Assistant.
9. Provide consultative service regarding budgetary guidelines as they relate to: consulting with Associate Medical Directors regarding the addition of positions to departments under their supervision; collaborating with Department Heads and Chiefs of Professional Services regarding the ability to hire versus clinic/department budget; developing and placing associated advertising; advising Department Heads in candidate salary offer negotiations; negotiating candidate household moving estimates with national moving companies; etc.
