Concept Mapping Biogeochemical Cycles

Concept Mapping Biogeochemical Cycles

Your group has been assigned one of the biogeochemical (nutrient) cycles presented in chapter 3 of the textbook. Using the software “OmniGraffle” you will design a concept map/diagram to visually introduce how the cycle works in nature. The map/diagram will be used to teach the class about the importance of the cycle in nature and how it works. Be sure everyone in your group understands how the cycle works and participates in the lesson presentation.

Your concept map/diagram will include the following:

1. Thumbprint sized images from the web representing the flow of materials and actions in question.

2. Arrows linking concepts to describe the flow and paths of materials in the cycle.

3. Links to layered maps needed to explain the cycle.

4. A brief scenario describing the sequences of consequences for us and other forms of life if your cycle stopped functioning.

5. Important focus questions to be answered in your concept map.

 What is the importance of this cycle?  What are the key components of this cycle?  What are the effects of sustaining and non-sustaining human activities on this cycle? What are examples and how can you make a difference in sustaining this cycle?  Do the pictures accurately provide a visual to assist students in understanding the important steps of the cycle?  Do your links make sense and describe if necessary the interconnected nature of the cycle.

6.You will hand in a hard copy of your C Map and as a group make a presentation to the class.
