 Playball- Thursdays  Sun smart - We have changed our brand of sunscreen  Accounts  Healthy Heart Award  Family Tree

We have recently started our homebased care called Family Tree. We are currently looking for a few more educators. Please look on our website and FB page for more information and give us a like.

Accounts: When you are paying your fees into our account PLEASE can you reference SELC and your child’s name with their account number?

Jen our Business Manager has asked us to remind you that all accounts MUST have a zero balance or be in credit at all times! This means when you receive your invoice every Monday, the balance must be zero or have a –minus in front. She wants to thank those super vigilant parents who ensure this happens, it is greatly appreciated. If you do have an outstanding debt with us, this must be cleared by the end of November at the latest or you will risk us removing your child from our roll for next year.

The warmer weather is here and our sun smart policy is now in place, so please Remember to SLIP, SLOP, SLAP and WRAP. We ask that you support us by following a few helpful things;  Sunscreen your child before they come, this helps with the room to run smoother in the busy period of the day. Most primary schools have a policy that they will need to be sun screened before they arrive as well. We do have a sunscreen station at the centre if you are running short on time.

 Have their shoulders covered, Children’s skin is much more delicate than ours, and sun smart suggest that they wrap up.

 No jandals- Please ensure that your child is wearing appropriate footwear for running, climbing and other active physical activity. As per our enrolment information, we would ask that jandals stay home please.

 Always bring a hat and a water bottle- No hat No play outside.

We have red Southbrook hats for sale for $10 each if you do not have one and would like one. Please speak to Hannah if you would like to order one.

We have changed our brand of sunscreen

Ultra Block sunscreen is specially designed, SPF 30+, water resistant and is ok for people with sensitive skin it also has aloe Vera and vitamin E.

If you do not wish for your child to use this or your child has a specific allergy, please provide a labelled sunscreen you wish them to use instead.

Healthy Heart Award This Year we will be applying to upgrade our healthy heart award to GOLD! Hope you can help us to achieve this goal. We will be giving out a certificate to the parents with the healthiest lunch box every week. We will also be sending home healthy alternatives list in your children’s lunch boxes to give you some ideas. Playball Thursday 10:45-11:45 Playball is starting back up again this Thursday 4th Feburary 2016. If you would like to sign up please email Ryan at [email protected] or put your name and email down on the sheet by the office.

Medical forms: If your child has an allergy, anaphylaxis or asthma please let us know ASAP. An action plan must be completed by a Doctor and a Category 3 Medicine form to ensure we can provide medication to your child as deemed necessary. Hannah will be checking this termly from now on and will ask you if the medication is still required.

Focus of our classroom:

We are enjoying our focus of Heuristic and natural play. The children have been exploring natural and authentic materials. They have enjoyed finding different ways to use everyday things. We have also seen the children using knowledge from outside the center to recognize, identify and use familiar objects. Kiwi room news:

As some of you will already know I (Sandra) will be leaving Southbrook Early Learning Centre. I will miss you all and feel privileged to have had the opportunity to work with and alongside you all caring for your amazing children. It is time for me to move on to new things with the knowledge I have gained from working here. Thank you for making my time here so fun.

Teacher/Kaiako: Libby Ellmers Date: March 2016

New Tamariki who have started:

A warm welcome to the Tui Room goes to: Porcha & Milan. We are excited to have you here with us in the Tui Room, and can’t wait to get to know you and your families, as you continue to settle in.

Children who have moved on:

We wish the following children and their families a very fond farewell David & Toby. All the best in the Pukeko Room, we can see that you are loving it over there!

Planning: This month in the Tui Room we will be moving onto our focus onto ‘Being Involved’. Some learning experiences that we will be doing this month to foster this disposition will be participating in world book day, volcanos in the sandpit and other science experiments, collaborative art experiences and so much more! We will also be continuing on with our individual planning for each child, keep an eye on the learning tree to see what your child is working on this month.

Reminder to parents: Please remember to bring a named sunhat every day for your child, and to put sunscreen on them in the mornings before they arrive at preschool for the day. Please remember to bring your child’s profile book back, once you have finished reading it, so we can continue to put new learning stories in for them.

Many thanks  The Tui Room Teachers. PUKEKO ROOM

Teacher/Kaiako: Lynley Date: February 2015 Thank you to all our wonderful families for taking the time to complete your child’s ‘holiday page’. We have loved displaying them and the children have shared wonderful and happy memories with the class.

New Tamariki who have started: A warm welcome to the Pukeko Room goes to David Worthington and Toby Mellish. We look forward to supporting you on your learning journey.

Focus of our classroom presently:  The Pukeko Room continues to focus on providing children with a sense of belonging. We do this daily through the regular routines/activities provided and by encouraging children through play. It is about the process of doing/participating and not the end product where children learn strategies and develop skills to support them today and their future.

Special Events/Activities that have occurred:

Reminders for parents: Please encourage your child to go to the teacher available in their room when dropping them off, as when/if teachers are absent your child needs to learn to feel safe and cope with change. We are noticing that some parents are seeking particular teachers to pass their child to and this is not a positive or practical routine to encourage for their overall well-being.  Please bring all profile books back to preschool.

 Please ensure your child can independently put on and take off their shoes and clothing for preschool.

 Please remember a named sun-hat everyday so your child can play outside.

 Please provide your child with a named water bottle every day.

Thank you to the families who brought in swan plants for our very hungry caterpillars. The children have loved watching daily the progress and change in these wonderful insects. Many thanks  The Pukeko Room Teachers.
