DAISY ASHLEY NEWSOME OF 12 AIKEN COUNTY ON THE OCCASION OF HER ONE 13 HUNDREDTH BIRTHDAY AND EXTENDING BEST WISHES 14 TO THIS LOVELY SOUTHERN LADY AND REMARKABLE 15 SOUTH CAROLINA NATIVE. 16 17 Whereas, Mrs. Daisy Ashley Newsome celebrates her one 18 hundredth birthday on March 2, 2002; and 19 20 Whereas, Daisy Newsome, a native South Carolinian, was born, 21 raised, and has lived her entire life in Aiken County and has 22 witnessed first hand the development of South Carolina throughout 23 the twentieth century; and 24 25 Whereas, she was a diligent student at Bettis Academy School and 26 has been revered and respected throughout her life in the Bettis 27 Academy Community; and 28 29 Whereas, Mrs. Newsome married Willie Newsome in September 30 of 1930 and this union has been blessed with six children - Willie, 31 Greatha Patricia, Doreatha, Freddie, Mamie Angela, and John 32 David, fourteen grandchildren, and seventeen great-grandchildren; 33 and 34 35 Whereas, Mrs. Newsome, the matriarch of a very close, loving, 36 and devoted family, began honing her homemaking skills and 37 maternal instincts at an early age and her family has long since 38 adored her loving, nurturing ways and admired her wisdom and 39 strength of character; and 40

1 [1067] 1 1 Whereas, she has been a loyal member of the Mount Cannan 2 Baptist Church and enters her second century guided by her deep 3 faith and strong Christian values; and 4 5 Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are very 6 pleased to have the opportunity to recognize the life of one of 7 South Carolina’s remarkable native daughters on the very happy 8 and joyous occasion of her one hundredth birthday. Now, 9 therefore, 10 11 Be it resolved by the Senate: 12 13 That the members of the Senate of South Carolina, by this 14 resolution, congratulate Mrs. Daisy Ashley Newsome of Aiken 15 County on the occasion of her one hundredth birthday and extend 16 best wishes to this lovely southern lady and remarkable South 17 Carolina native. 18 19 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to 20 Mrs. Daisy Newsome. 21 ----XX----
