Text for Health & Safety Signs

Identify, comply and make your workplace safe and secure. Whether you're restricting access to a particular area, alerting employees to potential hazards or simply providing direction, safety signs play an important role in your facility. Our range of health and safety signs is designed to meet Australian Standard AS1319-1995 which outlines specific parameters for safety signs in an occupational environment.

Site Survey Form (page 336) Use the site survey form to help you identify required signs for your office, factory or worksite. Customers should determine the most suitable size and material for their own application. For material and viewing distance guides refer to pages 9-10.

Mandatory Signs (pages 15-17) These signs specify that an instruction must be carried out. Symbols (or “pictograms”) are depicted in white on a blue circular background. Mandatory signs are almost always found on building and construction sites as protective clothing is a usual mandatory requirement. Sign wording, if necessary, is in black lettering on a white background.

Prohibition Signs (pages 18-20, 42) These signs specify behaviour or actions which are not permitted. The annulus and slash should be depicted in red over the action symbol in black. Sign wording, if necessary, is in black lettering on a white background. Popular sign groups in this sign family are no smoking and messages related to unauthorised access.

Warning Signs (pages 21-23) Warning signs are to warn of hazards or a hazardous condition that is not likely to be life- threatening. The hazard symbol should be black on a yellow background and a triangle should be depicted around the hazard symbol. Sign wording, if necessary, is in black lettering on a yellow background. Danger Signs (pages 24-27, 32, 38-41) These signs are for warning when a hazard or a hazardous condition is likely to be life- threatening. The word “Danger” is featured inside a red oval which in turn is inside a black rectangle. Danger signs can be found in most businesses in one place or another and usually deal directly with keeping your employees or visitors safe.

Emergency Signs (pages 30-31, 227, 230) Indicate the location of, or directions to emergency related facilities (exits, first aid, safety equipment, etc). These signs feature a white symbol and/or text on a green background.

Fire Signs (pages 228-229) Advise the location of fire alarms and fire fighting equipment. They contain a white symbol and/or text on a red background.

Road and Traffic Signs (pages 130-135) Keep your streets, driveways and car parks organised. Instruct your road traffic in the right direction, to ensure everyone’s safety. Signs include STOP, GIVE WAY, ONE WAY to name just a few.

Dangerous Goods Identification Signs (pages 210-213) If your workplace or worksite uses any type of hazardous substance (oil, fuel, chemicals, gases); stores any type of chemical for use or re-sale (paint, aerosol sprays, cleaning chemicals, pesticides); handles or transports dangerous goods; creates wastewater, sediment or other substances that can pollute waterways, you are required by law to control these activities to ensure the protection of the environment. Legislation requires all sites storing and/or transporting dangerous goods must display adequate signage warning of the types of chemicals on site.

Security Signs (page 218) These signs provide a highly visible warning to thieves, shoplifters, criminals and vandals – an ideal deterrent for all areas of your facility. Use in areas where covert cameras are not easily visible. They form an integral part of your security system whilst reassuring customers, visitors and employees.

General Information Signs (pages 47-50) These signs are not referred in AS1319, however are available due to popular demand. They communicate information of a general nature and often refer to housekeeping, company practices and logistics.
