Please keep a copy for your GST records. “INSIDE THE GAME: AN INSIGHT INTO MATCH DAY MANAGEMENT” 2009 SWINBURNE UNIVERSITY AUSTRALIAN FOOTBALL COACHING CONFERENCE THE PRESENTERS KEYNOTE ADDRESS Terry Daniher: Terry Daniher was recruited by South Melbourne in 1976 from Ungarie, NSW. He began his career with the Bombers in 1978 and by 1982 was renowned as a versatile utility player who could play either forward or back. In 1983, Daniher became captain of Essendon, a post he would hold until 1988. Daniher played 313 games for South Melbourne (19) and Essendon (294) between 1976 and 1992, and captained the Bombers to the 1984 and 1985 flags. He captained Victoria and Australia, and was named on a half forward flank in Essendon’s Team of the Century. In 1998, he was inducted into the Australian Football Hall of Fame. Since his retirement as a player, Daniher has held various Senior and Assistant coaching positions. He was the Senior Coach of the Essendon VFL team from 1999 until 2002, before moving on to Collingwood as Assistant Coach in 2003, St Kilda in 2004-05 and Carlton in 2006. In 2008, Daniher was appointed coach of the VCFL Senior Squad. SESSIONAL PRESENTERS Steve Wallis: Steve Wallis made his senior VFL debut in 1983 with the Footscray Football Club and in 1989 was appointed captain of the Bulldogs. He played a total of 261 games and kicked 57 goals in a career spanning 14 seasons, and also represented Victoria in State of Origin. More recently, he was coach to the St. Kevin’s College First XVIII football team who defeated their long-time rivals Xavier College to become Premiers in the 2009 APS Under 18 competition. Shannon Grant: Shannon Grant began his playing career at the Sydney Swans in 1995 before moving to the Kangaroos in 1998. He was a member of the 1999 North Melbourne premiership side and at the end of the game was awarded the Norm Smith Medal for best-on-ground. His career spanned 14 years, during which he played a total of 301 games and kicked 361 goals. In 2009, Grant was appointed Head Coach of Frankston Football Club in the VFL. PANEL PRESENTERS Paul Hudson: Paul Hudson joined the Collingwood coaching panel as Assistant Coach (Forward Line) in 2009 having spent the past two seasons as an assistant coach under Leigh Matthews at the Brisbane Lions. Prior to that he spent two seasons as Head Coach of the Gippsland Power in the TAC Cup Under 18 competition. Hudson also played 13 seasons and 245 games with Hawthorn, Western Bulldogs and Richmond, during which time he managed to kick a total of 479 goals. Scott West: Scott West joined the Demons in 2009 as a part-time Assistant Coach (Midfield), specialising in the stoppage area of the game. As a player, he was a tough “in-an-under” midfielder who was hard at the ball and was regularly one of the leading possession-getters in the competition. He amassed an amazing seven Club Best and Fairest awards in his 324-game career with the Western Bulldogs and was runner-up in the Brownlow Medal in 2000 and 2006. West was also named All Australian on five occasions. Brenton Sanderson: Brenton Sanderson was appointed Assistant Coach (Back Line) at Geelong in 2007 after spending 2006 as Development Coach at Port Adelaide. He began his AFL playing career in 1992 with the Adelaide Crows before being traded to Collingwood in 1994 and Geelong in 1995. Sanderson enjoyed an outstanding 11 years with the Cats, winning the Club Best & Fairest in 2001 and finishing third in 1998, 2000 and 2003. He was vice-captain of the club from 2003-05, and also represented Australia in the 2001 International Rules series. Overall, Sanderson played 209 games and kicked 34 goals. .
