Welcome to Seventh Grade! Reading, writing, thinking, and communicating effectively are very important skills that students will continue to develop this year. Super exciting! Our activities are designed to meet the standards of the new Utah Language Arts Common Core.

Here is an overview of what students can expect to learn this year:

Independent Students will read daily in class. In addition, they are expected to read at home an Reading average of 15 minutes per day, five days a week. Assessment is through quarterly book reports and a daily reading log.

Reading Units include a range of nonfiction, poetry, drama, and novels. Assignments vary Literature and within each unit. Students will acquire effective reading skills. Informational Texts Writing Daily writing practice through “blogs.” Emphasis on effective writing strategies. Students will learn and practice creative, critical, and practical writing skills.

Speaking and Preparation, presentation, evaluation, and impromptu speaking activities. Students Listening will gain effective speaking and listening skills.

Language Students will learn grade-level grammar and vocabulary skills.

Homework 15 to 30 minutes per night. This is a two period class, so students should expect more homework than other classes.

How Students will be graded:

Since this is a two-period class, students will receive the same grade in both classes. For simplicity, scores for all assignments are recorded on Skyward under 4th period. At the end of the quarter, the percentage earned will be copied to 5th period.

Students will be graded on a weighted scale based on completion of their assignments and participation.
