COURSE SYLLABUS -- UC RIVERSIDE EXTENSION Course Number: EDU X 490.L Registration Number: 122-EDC-C16 California Mathematics Council - South 2012 Conference “Access & Achievement Through Students’ Common Core Mathematical Practices” November 2- 3, 2012 1 Quarter Unit

Facilitator: Judith Sydner-Gordon

Overview: Participants attend the California Mathematics Council -South 2012 Conference and write a reflective summary of each session experienced, including ideas on how the information presented in the session can be applied in the classroom. At least 10 hours of conference attendance is required.

The required 10 hours of attendance must include conference sessions (1.5 hours each), and may include:  Commercial exhibits -- 1 hour maximum  Affiliate Luncheon or Leadership Luncheon -- 1 hour maximum (Example: 6 sessions = 9 hours + 1 hour in Exhibit Hall = 10 hours Total)

Written Assignment: The required written assignment includes the following: 1. the completed Participant Information Page 2. a reflective summary of each session and/or activity attended including - sessions/activities listed in chronological order - session number and title/activity title with date and time - presenter’s name - your ideas for addressing Equity and student mathematical identity in the classroom (Reminder: A reflective summary of the Exhibit Hall and/or Luncheon experience must be included, if applicable.) 3. criteria for passing grade (A+ through C) - typewritten paper (Please check grammar & spelling.) - ½ page or more - include items under #2 (See above.) - application of information/ideas in your classroom or current position with an emphasis on Common Core Mathematical Practices and Equity .

The Written Assignment MUST be received on or before Friday, November 30, 2012.
