1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 A SENATE RESOLUTION 10 11 TO COMMEND AND CONGRATULATE THE PICKENS HIGH 12 SCHOOL LADY BLUE FLAME VOLLEYBALL TEAM FOR 13 AN OUTSTANDING SEASON AND FOR WINNING THEIR 14 THIRD CONSECUTIVE STATE AAA CHAMPIONSHIP, AND 15 TO HONOR COACH PEGGY ANTHONY FOR HER 16 EXCELLENT 25-YEAR COACHING CAREER. 17 18 Whereas, the members of the Senate of the State of South Carolina 19 honor the Pickens High School Lady Flame Volleyball Team for 20 their impressive winning season, which culminated in their third 21 consecutive AAA State Championship victory over Camden High 22 School on November 9, 2002; and 23 24 Whereas, in the past three seasons, the team has compiled a 38-0 25 record in Region 1-AAA and a 73-0 regular season and playoff 26 record, not including invitational tournament play; and 27 28 Whereas, team members are Elizabeth Rivers, Carolyn Rivers, 29 Lauren Blackwell, Karey Kelley, Katie Bridges, Kelli Constance, 30 Augusta Bryant, Erin Owens, Rebecca Wilson, Sarah Javdan- 31 Inalloo, Erin Winchester, Kathryn Clayton, Magen Peterson, Nikki 32 Anthony, Megan Hendricks, Shannah Hughes, and Jessica 33 Gravely; and 34 35 Whereas, the team is supported by Head Coach - Peggy Anthony, 36 Assistant Coaches - Janet Phillips and Mellie Durham, Managers - 37 Luke Baker, Levi Reed and Heath Fields, Statistician - Karen 38 Winchester, Principal - Marion Lawson, Assistant Principals - 39 Hamp Summey, Linda Wnukowski and Kurt Fields, and Athletic 40 Director - Steve Corn; and 41

1 [455] 1 1 Whereas, the end of the season marked the retirement of Pickens 2 High School Volleyball Coach, Peggy Anthony, after 25 years of 3 coaching. This third consecutive state title was also the ninth state 4 title for Coach Anthony, whose career record stands at 737 wins 5 and 150 losses; and 6 7 Whereas, it is appropriate for the members of the Senate to pause 8 in their deliberations so that they might recognize and honor the 9 Pickens High School Lady Blue Flame Volleyball Team and 10 Coach Peggy Anthony on their record season and championship 11 win. Now, therefore, 12 13 Be it resolved by the Senate: 14 15 That the members of the Senate of the State of South Carolina, by 16 this resolution, commend and congratulate the Pickens High 17 School Lady Blue Flame Volleyball Team for an outstanding 18 season and for winning their third consecutive State AAA 19 Championship, and to honor Coach Peggy Anthony for her 20 excellent 25-year coaching career. 21 22 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to 23 Pickens High School. 24 ----XX---- 25
