Ms. Frizzle likes to go on unusual field trips. On this trip the class is going on a trip to see how electricity is made and used. Join Ms. Frizzle and her class on a wild adventure aboard the magic school bus.

(7) Compare the class’ experience with the thunderstorm with a time you were in a thunderstorm. (Answer) Any logical answer. (Follow Up) Describe what you do at your house when the electricity goes off.
(8) List the different parts of the power plant. (Answer) Boiler, turbine, shaft and generator. (Follow Up) Tell how many bolts are in the current when it leaves the power plant.
(9) Explain what a nucleus is. (Answer) The center of an atom. (Follow Up) Tell what circles around the outside of an atom.
(10) Name the device that makes the voltage in the wire higher or lower. (Answer) A transformer. (Follow Up) Explain how the class got out of the wire. Activities
1. Make a list of things in the room that use electricity.
2. Draw a picture of an atom and label the nucleus and electrons.
3. Make a list of all the places the class went through on their trip.
4. Draw a switch in the open and one in the closed position and write a sentence explaining what happens in each.
Introductions
1. Have an extension cord. Ask the child how the electricity gets form the wall to the appliance. Today we are going to read a book about how electricity is made and how it is used.
2. Have a small appliance with a cord. Ask the child if they know what makes the appliance work. Let’s read a book about how electricity is made and works.
3. Have a magnet and ask the children if they know what magnets are use for. Today we are going to read a book about how magnets are used to make electricity and how they are use in engines.
