At School No Password Or User Name Is Required to Use KYVL. Just Do the Following

MCHS Students,

Welcome back! I wanted to let you know about a couple of helpful resources to use when you have to complete an assignment that involves any kind of research. Our school district subscribes to the Kentucky Virtual Library (KYVL), and the MCHS Library Media Center subscribes to Gale’s Literature Resource Center, specifically to help in meeting the information needs of our students.

At school no password or user name is required to use KYVL. Just do the following: 1. Click Forms/Links on the district webpage. 2. Then, on the left hand side of the page, click Kentucky Virtual Library, and you will be taken to the KYVL home page. 3. Under Students, select High School Students, and you’ll see the databases available to you. Start your search from there! 4. From home, follow the same steps, but when you’re asked to enter an ID and Password, use the following: ID: mont000001 PW: owlish59

KYVL provides us access to the Grolier Encyclopedia, EBSCO’s Student Resource Center, NoveList, plus numerous full-text periodicals and/or magazines, and newspapers from around the world. Be sure to take advantage of these amazing resources.

Since the KYVL, by its own admission, is lacking in the area of literature, language, and literary criticism, the MCHS Library Media Center holds a separate subscription to Gale’s Literature Resource Center.

To access Gale’s Literature Resource Center,

1. Go to the MCHS web page (NOT the district web page). 2. Click on Links. 3. Then click on Media Center-Gale Research Databases. 4. Then click on Literature Resource Center-LRC. 5. At school type this password: mts_log At home type this password: mts_rpa

These database resources are very user-friendly. Before you immediately turn to Google and Wikipedia, where you’ll have too many hits to sort through, and too much information to evaluate for relevance and reliability, try KYVL or Gale’s Literature Resource Center. If you have any questions, come see me in the library!

Have a great school year!
