Overview of Network

Hardware and Software Solutions

The Hardware and Software Architecture will be set up as such. The Main Office will house ten (10) Employees, each having one (1) desktop and one (1) laptop per person. The Desktops will be OptiPlex 755 (Detail on pg. 2), and the laptops will be Dell Latitude D430 (Detail on pg. 3). The Main Office will also house three (3) servers; one (1) Application Server, one (1) Web Server, and one (1) Database server (Detail on pg.3). The Application Server will run Microsoft Windows Server 2008 in order to facilitate the use of Microsoft System Center (Operations Manager and Active Directory support). It will act as an Active Directory server to house the roaming profiles of each Desktop and Laptop so that the profiles can be synced no matter what computer the user is on. If they are out of the office on their laptop, the AT&T built-in mobile broadband will allow them to connect to the application server and download their profile before logging in.

The Web Server will run RedHat Enterprise and host the main company website and their user portal for users to update their customer information and submit ticketing information. The Database server will run Windows Server 2008 to facilitate use of Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Standard. This will allow both the Application Server (System Center *must* use Microsoft SQL Server to operate) and the Web Server to house their databases on the same server. On all servers, Backups will be kept both daily and weekly to maintain data integrity. Also, all servers will have backup Power Supplies to maintain safe operation no matter what circumstances. All three servers will also be hooked into a APC UPS of 16kVA to maintain power in times of outage. Also, when the UPS gets low on power, a large Diesel Generator would be employed to power up and run until power is restored. On the subject of Computer Security, each Desktop will also have its own APC UPS of 500 VA to maintain power in short outages, and to shutdown the computer automatically in longer outages.

Network Infrastructure

The Network Infrastructure will be set up in the following manner. Each office will be connected to the internet using their own AT&T subnet. The subnet will be small as the only thing hooked up to the actual internet will be the router at each location. The Router will then use a local IP addressing option such as 192.168.x.x. Each router will be a wireless gigabit-N router to give wireless N quality speeds to customers who come in and bring laptops and also employees who choose to work on their laptops. Also, the router located at the main location will forward all requests to port 80 to the web server and all requests on port 81(Microsoft Active Directory) to the application server.
